Review: The BIG Yuin Comparison (PK series - OK series) - Page 3

OK2 vs OK3

Would OK2 or OK3 be a better choice to use unamped with a 3rd gen Nano? I assume that an OK2 is superior when driven properly, but is a Nano 3 up to the task? Here are some specs:

OK2

Impedence: 16 ohm(at 1KHz)
Sensitivity:109 dB (at 1KHz)

OK3

Impedance:32 ohm(at 1KHz)
Sensitivity:120 dB (at 1KHz)

Same question with the Classic

Thanks !

I went ahead and got the OK2. Reports on this forum indicated that the OK2 performs well with any model of iPod, unamped. Shipping from head-direct was very quick. The OK2 sounds wonderful unamped on my Nano 3. My other earbuds are pretty good (ATH-CM7ti, Sony Qualia MDR-EXQ1, ATH-EC7) but the OK2 is on a completely higher level.

I gotta say though that the Yuin earbuds are ugly ducklings, and I'm certain that the lack of visual appeal has hurt their sales. The OK1 is $229 but anybody but a Head-Fi'er might think they are $10 earbuds from a blister pack at Radio Shack. Just a few simple styling touches could have gone a long way.

Part of the reason I love the Yuin buds is because they don't look like they are worth stealing. Less likely to get mugged for your Ipod/DAP is a huge plus. Anyone using ipod default buds or expensive looking phones when walking around in the city is asking to be a target.

Hi to everyone. Sorry for my poor english, i´am a fresh registered newbie from old good Europe.
I ordered my PK2 tonight after few hours reading this forum (great forum, very very interesting gadgets and i predict very expensive for my wallet in the future).
Should be a little bit better choice than the original "solution" delivered with iPod Classic :-) and the - IMHO - disappointing Senn CX300.
But the question is: does anybody know how stable is the PK2 in the ears while riding a road bike?

I have a question about the difference between the OK1 and the OK2. Has anyone had the chance to add a resistor to the OK2 making it 150 ohms = OK1? I'm wondering if that may be the only difference between the two. If so, you could buy the OK2 and when amping, just add some resistance to get all the benefits of the OK1. Any thoughts? -CK

Nice review, so I guess the OK series is more than 'ok' (bad pun I know) and have improved on the PK series

However one question: Is the isolation still crap like they were with the PK series or has that improved as well?

They are earbuds, so they don't isolate.

anthonyfirst,

Brilliant review. Having both a Yuin PK2 and PK1, I concur with your aural observations. I use the PK1's a lot (my wife uses the PK2's as she refuses to be amped--it would cramp her style and she does love to wander around with an Ipod shuffle). My favourite cans are Grado 325i's. There is a similarity in sonic signature betwen them and the PK1's.

Thanks again for your highly informative and thorough review of the Yuin lineup.

Cheers!

Thanks, I did my best to explain their sonic characters. Your words are much appreciated.

Just got me some PK1s. Liked them but found the mid-lows a bit more than I`d rather. Would wonder if the OK1 would have suited me best. On the other side I love the "lower lows" it provides you.

Also found the pk1s somewhat uncomfortable after about 6 or 8 hours of usage. Maybe it`s just me...

only 6 or 8 hours!!! i find it amazing when i spend more than 3 hours with any headphone gotta give the ear drums a little rest sometime.

but honestly the yuins are the most comfortable headphone ive ever worn at least any headphone with decent sound quality.

antonyfirst,

based on this review and another review by kostalex I've really been able to narrow down my search for some new headphones. From what I've read i think that the yuin ok2 might be the right pair for me but I just wanted to clear up a few last questions I had before I made my order. I think my listening needs are pretty basic: I'm a casual listener but I like my music to sound good, I listen to mostly Rock and Hip Hop, I'm not planning on using an outside amp, and I'd like to spend around $150 or less. Also, I live in new york city and i do a lot of walking around with my ipod nano. I'm replacing a pair of etymotic ER6 phones. I think the only thing that is making me hesitate now is whether or not i want to get earbuds or IEMs (in-canal). My knowledge on the subject is very limited and I was wondering if there are any major differences between buds and IEMs besides just the isolation that IEMs provide? Is one type better than the other or is it more of a personal preference? Also, are there any IEMs that you would recommend that are similiar in performance and price to the Ok2s. Thanks for your help and the great review

Genres matching from my review:

PK1 is excellent for rock, blues, hip-hop, followed by OK1.
OK2 shines with metal, hard rock, house.

Sure you want OK2? PK1 unamped beats OK2 with your genres.

For me - no. No one is better than other. Er-6i is on the same level with OK2, but the sound signatures are different. RE EDIT: RE0 is 33% more expensive than OK2 and twice as better, different league.

Oh, I just found the IEMs benefit. They provide better SQ for bucks.

Earbuds are more comfy though.
