Amp for Ultrasone PROline 750/2500

Hi,

I'm looking for a good amp+dac combo (or seperate if need be) for my yet-to-be-burnt-in PL 2500. I was previously thinking of the Little Dot MK V amp but that might be a bit overkill for a 40Ohm impedance set of cans?

Thanks.

The MKV would be a very good amp.

If you want an amp+dac combo, the RSA Predator is hard to beat.

I use the Predator to drive Proline 650's (75 ohm) and Senn HD650's (300 Ohm) with ease. I just lent my Predator to a friend (TR Audio) and he A/B 'ed it with a MicroAmp using HD650's and said the Predator is slightly more detailed. TR Audio now has the Micro Dac so as soon as my Proline 2500's arrive there will be another A/B. Haven't thown in the 0404 Usb yet but maybe this weekend.
Maybe this will help a little.
P.S. The Predator is awesome with iPod 5g classic and 3G Nano.

Thanks for the replies folks. Seems to be a lot of love for the RSA Predator but I have a question.

The predator is battery powered right? Is it really the best amp for a desktop solution that will get LOTS of use - I mean, is the constant charge/discharge of a battery the best way to go?

Is there maybe something similar to the predator but mains-operated and a bit more... durable?

Thanks.

For desktop opration I would choose the Octavart (previously known as the )1 Amp/Dac). Do a search and you will be able to read various reviews and comments.

The Predator is a very well made amp by one of the nicest and most dependable amp makers. However it is intended as a portable solution and thus I believe you will get better results out of the Octavart.

Since you are in GB you should look into X-Can V8.

The Darkvoice 336i and the Bada PH-12 both worked quite well with the Proline 2500, IMHE.
