Won't ship to Australia?

You might want to blame PayPal for that. The system is such that you can ship overseas, have them "claim" they didn't get it, and PayPal will suck their payment right out of your account. You end up out the item and shipping.

A lot of people have been ripped off by fraudulent sellers and that has been a legitimate problem. But now the scales are tipping towards the fraudulent buyers. That's equally as bad, but until PayPal puts solid protection in place, people in the US are not going to ship outside the country.

That being said, you're pretty well established here. You might want to tap a US Head-Fi friend or two to see if they'll do you a favor, if you know what I mean.

That is the price you pay for having a local source, with stock on hand, using authorised distribution channels, and an actual shop front where you can listen to anything you like. Not to mention that Marcus - even though he often comes across as arrogant - is an honest, stand-up guy.

While I don't like paying more than I have to, I'm more than happy to pay extra for all of those benefits.

In some respects, yes.

But most of the cost difference is attributable to Aussie distributors and the GST. You see the exact same scenario with items like digital SLR cameras..... the grey importers and eBay offer much better prices than official channels and B+M stores. The B+M stores in-turn do their best to offer good service, advice, and the chance to try gear out before you buy.

Marcus recently dropped $300 off the price of the K701's, simply because he managed to find a new distribution channel...... it is pretty obvious that the official distributor has the biggest monopoly!

Even in canada prices are pretty over the top.

the gramophone has the Grado SR60 for $99
TTVJ has it for $69.

RS2, gramophone sells for $599, while TTVJ sells it for $495

not just grado, either.
the gramophone has the Etymotic ER4p for $279
Headroom? $191.

I said BORDERING on $1000. Here in New Zealand the HD650 are commonly found for as much as $750 online (*** Sennheiser HD650 Ultimate Audiophile Head *** for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand) and this place (Sennheiser HD650 Hi-Fi Headphones) sells them for $977.20 excluding the GST of 12.5% which would surely bring it to OVER $1000. Retail stores probably sell them for even more.

That same shop sells the K701's for $799 excluding GST (AKG K701 Premium reference headphones).

I guess stuff is cheaper in Australia as well

The dollars aren't that far off. But their issues with distributor monopolies are twice as bad
