Good wire to use for a DIY mini-mini cable?

I'm going to throw together another DIY mini-mini cable for my upcoming Pico, and was wondering if there is any easily-sourced good quality wire i could use.

My last mini cable i made using a heavy guage speaker wire, and while i think it turned out Ok i'm sure there's room for improvement.

Any thoughts? I'd be looking for something i could ideally pick up at a local Jaycar/Dick Smith/JB Hifi retailer rather than Belden or anything else exotic.

I used some digitor w-2038 4 core shieded from Dick Smiths, $1.49 a metre- bargain. Sounds slightly warmer than canare L-4e6s, but for the money a fine cable to my ears. Just enter w2038 in the DSE site search and it will pop up.
