"Gold In Them Hills" by Ron Sexsmith/Chris Martin

I am just loving this song right now. Saw the music video twice last night. Features the voice of Chris Martin (Coldplay). I'm definitely going to buy Ron's latest album, 'Cobblestone Runway' soon enough.

I know it doesn't seem that way
But maybe it's the perfect day
Even though the bills are piling
And maybe Lady Luck ain't smiling

But if we'd only open our eyes
We'd see the blessings in disguise
That all the rain clouds are fountains
Though our troubles seem like mountains

There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
So don't lose heart
Give the day a chance to start

Every now and then life says
“Where do you think you're going so fast”
We're apt to think it cruel but sometimes
It's a case of cruel to be kind

And if we'd get up off our knees
Why then we'd see the forest for the trees
And we'd see the new sun rising
Over the hills on the horizon

There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
So don't lose faith
Give the world a chance to say...

A word or two, my friend
There's no telling how the day might end
And we'll never know until we see
That there's gold in them hills

There's gold in them hills
So don't lose heart
Give the day a chance to start

There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills

sapphire, I love your posts because we have such similar music likes and dislikes, I know that anything you suggest will be gold.

For example, on the advice of your Sarah Slean link, I got her album, and am loving it to death. A REAL talent, not a little pop princess.

And this song, too, will be good too.

Thanks man!

Trounce which Sarah Slean album did you get? I saw her at Winterfest and she did quitea lively performance.
I just saw the Video for Gold in the Hills and I think I'm hooked on the song.

Well then, more suggestions:
The Dears : "Lost In the Plot", "We Can Have It", "No Cities Left"
Death Cab For Cutie : "Photobooth"
Hayden : "Bass Song", "All in One Move"
Holly McNarland : "Dallas", "Beautiful Blue"
Silverchair : "Across the Night", "Tuna in the Brine"
Portishead : "Roads"

That's probably enough for now, eh? Hehe...

I'm pretty sure he's been around for about 10 years or so...

Hi,

Thanks for the recommendations of songs. Anyways bought Cobblestone Runway and was kinda dissapointed with the album. Only Gold in the Hills seemed well recorded. The whole cd sounded relatively low-fi.

Well he isn't that famous an artist so he probably doesn't get that high a budget, I'm assuming. I still haven't picked up the cd yet. Is the rest of the album good, musically? (aside from the sound quality)

I haven't really given it a good listen but it's pretty melancholy stuff. There's 2 cds so I'll post my impressions when I hear both. Yeah it does seem pretty low-budget, he thanked the Government of Canada for helping fund his cd.

Cobblestone Runway is a single cd but included when you buy it is his first album. So one disc is his newest stuff, the other is his oldest. Won't be picking the cd up for a while actually, I'm broke at the moment, Mothers Day and a friend's birthday got in the way of my cd buying plans. Oh well...

Trounce: I'm listening to "Across the Night" by Silverchair right now. It's really a pretty amazing song, you'd never expect it out of these guys if you only know them from their old singles.

Silverchair has kinda evolved to something different. The last single I heard from the "Greatest View" was kinda mellow for their music. Anyways their lead singer's dating Natalie Imbruglia!

They were married November last year, IIRC.
