The stock buds were a sarcastic remark, but I was just curious if it was out of the HP out or line out.

BTW: I am not a dude.
Why do u think i bought all of them? i Tried all of them.....my friend has YP-P2...maybe he doesnt put high bit rate songs but i didnt like the sound quality of Samsung. He uses those cheap headphones but i tried YP-P2 with Sennheiser HD205..

I also tried iRiver with Sennheisers...a DJ friend uses iRiver

in the end...i felt Sony were the best...not just coz of SQ...but a good interface also.

I always make sure i have tried out all DAP's & Sound processors in the market.

btw..nice to know u aint dude..

Did you try Samsung S5 yet and i think you will like it.

D2 and i7 and opposite sounds of the spectrum even though they are supposed to sound exactly the same, or if there is any difference, a small advantage to i7. Hmmmm ...

Obviously nobody speaking french read that article. So I am going to clarify some things they wrote.
They said that it was very difficult to make that ranking, because everything is very subjectif, but you already know that. And the ranking does not change based on their mood. It is a bunch of guys that meet every few months (like head-fi'ers meeting) to listen, test and compare audio stuff. So it is very natural that the ranking changes, because it's not a 1 reviewer opinion but a whole bunch of people opinions (which obviously is not composed of the exact same people at each meeting), which is good, isn't it?
At the end of the article, they said they would make real measurements of the mp3 players audio output at the next meeting, which will take place end of may. So keep that link, it will be interesting to see what they measured.

i think we here at head-fi should do our own rankings. on all players. not just current ones.

i know for a fact that my X5L beats out my cousin's D2. wonder what firmware he was using.

oops double post, sorry !

Wow, it's amazing how you judge without even understanding french.
Thank you Kel Ghu for the explanation, they badly needed it.

I'm one of the guys who did this ranking. We use lossless or high bitrate mp3 when it's not possible, we have all the headphones and iems we need, we listen in a quiet environment, maybe you don't agree with us -it's your right after all- but I really don't see what there is to criticize.
As for the older models, we dediced to remove them from the list because even if a lot of our forum members are high-end enthousiasts, most of the blog readers are just curious about sq or simply enjoy gadgets and aren't interested in old and ugly daps (which I love ). That is also why we listen straight from the headphone out.
If there are questions about our test protocol or whatever you think is relevant when it comes to sq, please be my guest !

We met last saturday but didn't have the time to do other comparisons. We'll meet again in a week or so and are looking forward to do it this time.

Wildsurfer, I am intrigued by how differently you ranked two players that are said to be so very, very alike: Cowon's D2 and iAudio 7. Have you compared them side-by-side, and what were the differences that warranted them ending up at opposite ends of your spectrum?
Just like we said in our article, with the iAudio7 we heard a little hiss and noise due the screen when the backlight was on.
What was not translated is that we found nearly all those daps to be excellent, the differences between them are quite subtle. Don't forget that we listened with um2's which are extremely sensible, and earsonics custom iems that are (according to a few reviewers that comperd them to other custom iems) in the same league as ue10 pro, ue11 pro etc...

I am one of the crazy guys who ranked all these players
My god our site is called generationmp3 so we must be lamers with crappy ears!!

We had all the players at the same time for this review, with the same files (320cbr mp3 files, as FLAC is not supported by every player) chosen by each reviewer. We used high end earphones (please tell me that Earsonics customs or Westone UM2 with custom earmolds are bad earphones ) and chose to review only players that are easy available for a french newbie. That's why we didn't use any headphone amp.

For the first round we were only 2, for the second one we were 4. Everybody can speak their mind so the players aren't sorted the same way. Is it bad? Not sure. It shows how difficult it is and how tastes and concerns are different for everybody.

For all our reviews (players, but also headphone amps, DACs and so on) we use blind test listening sessions, switches, volume controllers, to be sure that placebo effect does not play too much. Is it wrong? Again I'm not sure...

And please, at least try to understand what is written before criticizing our job...

Question is, did you apply the latest firmwares to each of the players, before judging them? Cowon's D2, for example, received a substantial boost in SQ with its 3.55 update, which was released only a few weeks ago. Other firmware updates in the past have also continued to refine the SQ in the D2.

I can't tell for sure for all the players, but as much as possible yes.
