I've had the NWZ-S618 (DOA) and I have the D2 - both have good sound but IMO the D2 is superior sounding. I agree w/u 100%!!!

I still prefer my iRiver H320, but the D2 is very very close, and actually better for listening to stuff like jazz.

Well, just ordered a Sony NWZ-A829 @$299.99 - lets see if it's worth it. The SQ of the Sony players is (IMO) slightly below the D2. But the D2 can't really do playlists right. Guess I'll see if it's gonna' be a keeper or a walk in to the B&M!!!

i myself have just ordered a D2 after a brief listen some time ago, i currently own a 5.5g ipod, and ive heard nothing but good stuff about the D2 and its brilliant built in amplifier.

i would agree the sony nwz-a81x sounds very good but again this is the opinions of others not mine. (it may sound crap to me who knows) but anyway i guess what im saying is simple really. we all know the D2 isnt a poor sounding mp3 player so get real lol no offence just a lighthearted joke but you should try some real good earphones such as the se530's or triple fi 10's and then maybe use some EQ and maybe the BBE of the D2 and then let us know what you think

If its anything like my DOA S618 then I'm good to go. The D2 is only slightly above in SQ IMO. The D2 just can't do playlists and this really pisses me off - need my lists. It's a very viable alternative - just need to deal w/the bass is all (very pronounced).

I cannot agree with that list. Mainly because from what I have heard the Ipod Touch is amoung the worst sounding DAPs ever made. The whole jack of all trades, master of none thing... I can't speak of the samsungs... So i'm not, but the D2 is the best sounding I have heard. Mainly because of all the sound staging and 5 band EQ, its only real problem is low end bass rolloff... I think personally its better sounding than the clix2. I'd like to test it against those samsungs though. And how did the IAudio 7 get so low? From what I have heard Iaudio 7 (minus the more powerful amp) is comparable if not slightly better than the D2 in terms of SQ, so why is it so low...? Given I have not heard it, and I am acting on hearsay, but still...

Oh well... As people have said to each his own. Also there are many missed on there but thats for another day...

D2 and i7 are basically the same as for sq.

D2 "KILLS" the A829 in SQ - sound staging is better, more pronounced bass (even w/the roll-off), cleaner & clearer sound. RMA is in the works and all I'm out is S&H.

interesting to se that no one here at head-fi seams to have tried "THE ONE"
mp3 conserning sq,.: iriver e10 !
liked the older sony NW-5 etc,. and the
h320, and love my imod driven with hornet, but the e10 is so good just as it is. with the price differens, its scaring how close iriver e10 ALONE stands against imod+hornet.! (using alo780, alo325i and e530 when saing this) to bad it only was avaible in 6gig ver, and is already discontinued...

I had a hunch that would happen -- thanks for checking out the Sony. It seems Cowon tunable SQ is very hard to beat. My pocket operational iAudio U3 is awesome but I wish it did gapless and had more gb's.

Picking up an E10 seems to be quite easy and cheap these days.

I wonder, can you pull the Microdrive and put a CF card in?

Well, as for the amp section, yes they are. But the i7 has more hiss than the d2.

Could people stop assuming things from what they've heard or read ?
I guess you're lucky, in this case it's true, the iTouch is pure **** with high end iems.

The Touch is actually a pretty decent sounding DAP. It's clean, but the soundstage is very lacking, in comparison to the D2.

Maybe you should actually listen to one before you trash it.

Yeah I agree, the Touch (and Classic also) is a better product regarding SQ that everything done by Apple before. It's among the good value DAPs on the market today. I find it lacking some soundstage too, and being a bit "boring" compared to best SQ DAPs.
