I think this highschoolboy understands it. Because of the mushroom design there is little room for movement inside the c-holders. That is because the mushroom blocks the cups. If you were to extend the cup by using a tube in the right size you can increase the distance between the part where the 'mushroom' begins and the c-holders.
So basically what you are doing is increasing the distance between the cups and the driver housings, am I right?
I don't get it. Your first paragraph hit it right on. You don't exactly "extend" the cup. You're just filling in the gap that was once the indent to mount the pads, with PVC pipe (then drill two holes for the C-holder). Look at your MS1000, there's an ugly indent on where the pads used to be. Since the distancer mod is added, the original pad mount is no longer used (the pads go on the distancer, not the driver grill/mounting ring).

I guess, pictorials works best. :S Gimme some time to photoshop some pictures.

^ I consider that as extending. I know what you mean now. If I find some time I'll take some pictures.

Has anybody else actually modded the MS-1i's to see if they fit? I am wearing them right now. I recieved my GS-1000 pads today and now they are fully modded MS-1000i's. They fit fine. No need for headband bending or PVC adding.

How do you like them?

That is indeed reliefing...

I LOVE THEM!! haha I sat in my room for about 3 hours last night just listening to music. Just sitting there. I've found you have to turn them up quite a bit louder than before to get the same sound level and what seems to be the proper effect, but I was told thats to be expected with this mod. It's not a problem. I haven't had any problems. The bass has returned to the left ear. I don't know what the heck was happening with that side...it was ticking then fading out then not playing bass not it's fine...? I guess maybe it will just be okay for now on.

Am I the first person to make the MS-1000 improved 2009 version as far as everybody who reads this knows??? I am just curious..because that would just be a cool thing to say haha.

Thank you everybody for helping with all of my nagging questions

^ Yep I guess you are the first. And feel free to ask.
Oh, did you get a reply from Grado Labs already? I am interested in hearing what they have to say about that left driver of yours.

Good to hear that you like it.

I guess the driver was going through some rebellious puberty. Thank god for you, it grew out of it. Haha

They didn't say anything helpful which was disappointing. They just replied "Please send your head phones into our service/repair center for servicing." I was hoping to get some assurance or tips possibly but I guess not haha.

That's ugly. Pretty much the same way how they replied to me when my MS-1 went bananas (my fault ). They are good in fixing the headphones I believe but when you're not in the USA, can be pretty expensive.

I'm wondering if I should send my MS1(000) in to have them repair the right driver. The rattling is very obvious with PA2v2.

I don't like HeadWize's collective Grado mod. Too vague in details.

Send them in guys. I just shipped SR-125s, SR-325s, and RS-1s in, all with blown drivers. Very reasonable repair prices, except new pads aren't included, so that added another $60 (3 sets) to the cost. Their quoted repair prices include return shipping too, so that may account for overseas sticker shock. I called yesterday just to confirm everything and John Grado actually answered the phone. Pretty cool to chat with him, but the conversation quickly switched to phono cartridges since I have a Green that I'll be upgrading to a Red stylus until my son is older ( he's 3-1/2 now) and I feel comfortable putting a $200 Gold out there exposed and vulnerable!

Once the cans come back the 325s will under go the mod and the 125s get woodie bowls and new headband cover.

One more question, are you guys keeping the stock Grado cables or are you upgrading those at the same time? I'm planning to upgrade my cable at the same time so I was just curious.

I'm of that **coughs** other fraction. Cable exchange only for more portability (onesided earbud cable for the MS1K).
Haha I would like to have a different cable and also out of one ear but I wouldn't know where to start and would be terrified of breaking something. Probably best if I just stick to the stock cable
