I don't think there is supposed to be felt in front of the drivers?

^ Yes, there is supposed to be some felt in front of the drivers. It's all preference of course. I found Beyer foam to work wonders. BTW, please don't quote pictures..

Very nice. I think the green and black looks sharp ...but I'm a little biased

Ok so I just ordered the MS1's about 3 days ago and the MS1i's showed up the day after or so.... Does anybody think if I called and asked to pay the extra $10 if they would ship the MS1i's instead? They haven't even charged the MS1's I ordered from my card yet... I know the only way to find out is to call and ask but I don't expect them to answer their phones until monday so I just wanted some second opinions to ease my waiting pains until then haha.

^ Only Alessandro can help you with that. Maybe you can cancel your order via your credit card?

Good idea!

An alessandro representative responded to my email that I sent a few days ago asking about another question unrelated to this one. They said that the normal MS-1's are not even supposed to be on the website available for purchase so they weren't sure how I ordered it in the first place. So I will have to wait for quite awhile for them to be ready and be on their way...

They offered to switch the order to the mini plug instead of the 1/4" that I ordered originally. Maybe this means that I can pay the extra and get the MS1i?? Only they know...I guess I'll just have to call today and find out...

Has there been an official consensus if the MS-1 Improved 2009 Version is worth it or not? Is it that much better? I've found mixed messages...

EDIT: I read on another thread that they are grado sr-125's with the Alessandro modifications...still good for the ms-1000? I have no idea bear with me I am fairly ignorant.

Thread Starter
Allright, NoXter and I had a finetuning session last weekend with 2x MS1K, 1x MS1 and 1x Ulti as probands. I'll sum results up here, first the well known items
  • thick felt on driver mesh - less treble sibilants
  • partial closing of drill holes - adds warmth, reduces treble
  • thick felt on top of distancer - less upper mids
  • different caps (stock, small woody, big woody, no cap at all) - nothing
  • perforated plastic disk on top of distancer - sh#t
We finally ended up with a "3 drill holes, no felt on mesh, felt on distancer" configuration.

What we also found out is that felt isn't like felt. My good stuff was spent, so I bought new felt which turned out to have much less sonic impact. Meh...

Pics from caps trials:

I am going to try the 'no felt on mesh, felt on distancer'.
Do you have more pics btw?

GOOD NEWS! I recieved an mail from an Alessandro rep and my order has been switched to the extra $10 for the MS-1i.. I'm fairly excited. But apparently everything is on backorder so who knows how long it will actually take to get on my ears...

And that is really helpful for my planning with my MS-1000 distancers building.. I got some big blocks of basswood I just need to find the tools to do it..
And yes more pics would be nice haha. So you don't even put felt on the driver or anything like that?? Just around the distancers to partially cover the holes??

Did the Mod. Wow these things have truly elevated into great phones.

I wonder if anyone has done this with HF-1s.

Also, whats the best method for attaching distancers in a temporary fashion. I'm using eletrical tape right now, would blu tack work?
Where's the pics?

I think blu tack or electrical tape are the two recommended temporary methods.
Blu tack or something like that should work great. Have you also checked out my way to attach the distancers?
Does it work just as well???
