I try it out at the moment. I took the DT770VB foam. It is completely white... Looks a bit...strange.

Well, the sound is really nice! It is hard to compare it with bigbowls, because I have just one headphone but it seems to be really close.

To be continued... !

If that works well (we'll compare soon) that would be cheaper and more comfortable than the big bowls...

More tinker though...at least some cutting and dying procedures.

Cheaper...not that much as long you have no bowls.
Comfort is at the moment quite OK, but no real step forward. For someone else perhaps... But this can be improved I think.

I built something comparable a moment ago, out of 414s and some foam from the Alessandro box (didn't want to slaughter my bowls). Ended up sounding a bit nasal.

As we know from the K271 padrolling, the foam material and consistance seems to be critical. Guess I'll stay with GS1K pads.

Pics?

I made one...

I think the bowls are really necessary.

The drillings help the sound to "breathe".

Without drilling, mids can be awkward, with too much drilling, you lose bass. The original Liberators just need 3 drillings as they don't sit as tight as the glued / bluetaced distancers.

I just got to surf through this thread and I've got to say wow, this is an excellent resource for Grado mod info, great job! I got to take a crack at this on my own as well.

But first off, how were you guys able to cut the foam pads so precisely? I tried using a regular blade cutter, but I tend to screw it up whenever I try (I can never get a perfect circle). Did you use a sort of template before cutting?

I used a simple 2$ (which broke already..) hobby knife. Placed a coin in the middle, pressed firm and cut around the coin. The knife I used was a bit rounded which works better.

This weekend I did want to try the additional holes, but I couldn't find a 1.5 mm drill. In fact the smallest at my disposal is 2mm.
Where do you get a single drill nowadays?
I guess the days of that kind of hardware store are long gone.
I'll probably have to purchase a whole set.
Meh .......

You can also use 2mm when you drill less holes.

Hey thanks! But I'm actually pertaining to the GS1k-like circumaural pads. I've some extra 1.5" foam lying around, and I can't seem to make a precise circle out of 'em (hehe).
