Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning] - Page 9

I found the clear silicone to work really well and ensured an airtight seal. I listened to them all morning and am happy with them! Eric Clapton unplugged is excellent with these phones and life like (I could mentally reconstruct the position of the instruments from the DVD).

Also I think the MS1000s work really well with ambient a la Boards of Canada. Spacious yet accurate. Not too much bass but enough, though doesn't extend as deep as the 325s. I tried the MS1 with distancers and bowls and found them to be a little too analytical (slightly honky) though worked well for choirs in big cathedrals! Didn't like them at all with flats (too muddy similar to without distancers), or comfies (annoying high mid boost around 4k-6k). Definitely best with the GS1K pads.

Thanks to all who have put effort into these mods, huge improvement over the standard MS1s. i think I may be keeping them after all!

Glad to hear that you like them. You should also give them a try with synthy-heavy stuff like Aphex twin or Underworld, that is definetely MS1000 Territory, even more than the mentioned BOC.

Just ordered the MS Pro. I want an MS Ultimate of my own. Sold my sacred CD3000 for that...

Anyone in the states looking to sell their MS1000? =P

I doubt that any MS1000 is existing in the states actually. No engaged american DIYer in sight.

Hey Nikchen let me know how they compare to the MS1000s! Wait did you already...?

The Ultimate has a higher resolution and more prominent mids than the MS1000. It sounds more natural. Think of a MS1000 on DT880 / K701 / HD650 level. Best musical experience I've made so far, forget about all that Stax sh*t...

Yes, ordering Alessandros has always to do with patience & tension. My MS Pro propably arrive when my family is on beach holiday and I'm on bicycle trip. Hope it works to get the postman and the neighbour coached.

Seems to take a while (1 month or longer). I don't have 1st hand experiences though, my pads were a gift from a german hifi forum buddy.

My pads took 8 days to come from TTVJ, and for once there was no customs fees.

Hmmm... no offense to anyone here, but if the improvements here is as claimed, GradoLabs had better read this thread and make the improvements to the cans?

That way, Grados will RULE THE WORLD of HEAD-FI!! Muahaha
