Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning] - Page 8

It would be interested to hear a comparison between these and C-paded grados. The comments on this thread seam smiler to the claims made by headphile in terms of sound improvement.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I tried some (sort of) C-pads some time ago in 2006, and it was a great mess. The mids turned out into a kind of "satire version" of coloured AT mids. Unlistenable IMO.

Yes they originally came with comfies. I quarter modded them with some improvement. I also have bowls and flats. With the bowls the bass had almost vanished and the highs too harsh (at least with rock). With flats it's the opposite - no highs/detail and too much low mid. Good for rock though but lacking for jazz and classical.

I'd be interested to hear confirmation about the 325is and the GS1k!

Distancers fertig ;)

Today I finally finished my Nickerators and they came out pretty good I think. Here's a pic of them, without velt though:

Since these came out pretty good I now want to order the pads. So, if you live in the Netherlands and are up for a group buy: PM me!

I'm also willing to sell these, please PM me if you are interested.

Nick.

Hey guys I finished putting the silicone on my distancers finally and received the pads and definitely confirm this is a big improvement on the MS1s for sure! The only thing is I got my 325s recabled recently and I find myself listening to them more!

But I have to say that the MS1000s are at least 75% of the 325s sometimes more depending on music style. For how much less?

The differece is there still with soundstage with the MS1Ks having a much larger one. BTW the pads also fit without distancers on the 325s if anyone wants to try it and avoid the glue/silicone!

I'll try the pads on the 325s again and report back. But i'm afraid there may be some assembled ready to go MS1K going up for sale soon (I'll post it in this thread first to be loyal! PM if interested). Need the money for a dedicated amp!

ScheiZe :P

Nah just kidding, I just wanted you to let us know how you feel about the MS1000. I'm not looking for selling the distancers to make money. I just feel anybody should have a chance to get the MSTausend

I know you weren't tryin to sell me some, i was just messing with ya .

I'm really looking forward to trying these. I've read that standard ms1 are as good if not better than the sr80 and i loved my old ALO pair. The jumbo pads seem to be very comfy compared to the bowls, its just a pity they don't work out with the other grado's as i think it's just what they need in terms of ear comfort.

Hmm, though getting kind of offtopic I don't think Grados are uncomfortable. Not with the comfies or 414 pads imo.

The bowls I tried at a friend's house were uncomfortable though and so are my slightly too big quarterholed 414s

As far as MS-1 vs SR80: I liked the MS-1 better by far. Far more neutral. SR80 was like an EQed MS-1. I tried the SR80s with bowls with that friend I spoke of earlier. Though I really want to try his SR80 on my source/amp as I think he EQed it quite a bit. I find the SR80s to be overly bright.

I did try the reversed 414 but didn't like the sound with them, so stuck to the bowls. I wasn't too bothered with the brightness of the sr-80 it was very little compared to the 325i i had the same time.

Ok back on topic i've found some very thin 3m double side tape to stick the distancers on with. It should work but if not i'll break out the clear epoxy.

Hmmm...maybe superglue works better than epoxy. Mine are fixed with that stuff, I expected them to fall off one day, but they never did. On the other hand, we glued my buddie's distancers with the "mighty" expoxy, and they fell off after two months. We didn't degrease the parts seriously before though...
