LOL, better late then never.

I guess I should edit some videos when I have the chance. Been so busy lately.

Arrrgghh! Nice pictures, Al. Never too late to post photos ... well, except for that first, nose hair shot at Bro Tucker's.

Long live happy memories of CJ '08!

I found the comments on the BHSE with the O2 facinating. I have not had a chance to hear this combination and I was wondering how others out there who have heard the ES-1 with the 02's would compare the sonics of these two combinations. I wasn't particularly interested in technical gargon or cost per return comparisons- just which made the 02's shine better in terms of shere music putting all other issues aside. I would appreciate any commentts ..

Thanks..

I've already posted it in this thread, but I have heard O2s on ES-1, ES-2 and other KGBHs before, along with various Stax amps, and the KGBH SE blew them all away with the O2s in particular. It was not as good as the SinglePower amps with the HE90 but that is not what it is "voiced" for.

EDIT: I think I posted those KGBH SE comments in the CanJam impressions thread.

I have an ES-1 and i am nuts about the 02's out of it; I don't think I will ever own an HE90 based on the current price. I am thinking about selling my ES-1 for a KBGH SE but I hate purchasing things I never heard and taking risks when I am already blown away by my current set-up. I guess its that mind always wondering if I could do better. I would appreciate any more comments on this comparison. thanks..

The ES-1/2 was the best I had heard the O2s before the KGBH SE, so if you love your ES-1 then don't sweat it. I am familiar with/suffer from the "what-if-there-is-something-better" syndrome, but in this case the SE is sold out for the near future and production models have not even hit the streets. You have the opportunity to wait until people get them and start some more in-depth impressions until you convince yourself that an upgrade is needed.

Thanks.. And to be fair- you have not heard my ES-1. They are all different. SP made the most substantial advancement in their ES-1 since it was released just a few months ago- by changing the circut and increasing the current to the output tubes by 25%- wow they run hot. I had mine modded with this mod and I am stunned beyond belief. I know everyone is excited about the new KGBH SE because it is new and it probobly does sound incredible, but I have a hunch with this new circut in the ES-1 it must be at least a close call. Probobly not worth it.

BHSE VS. ES-1 with 02's

I recently PM'd a ES-1 owner who was at Canjam and listened to the BHSE to get his opinion on the comparison. He didn't have a clear outcome as he said he did not spend a lot of time with the BHSE but he did say he was not "blown away" by the BHSE and that he was very satisfied with the ES-1 02 combo. in pure sonic terms. Furthermore, he he felt the tube rolling options on the ES-1 made it more desireable in terms of functionality giving the user the ability to customize the sound more to his tastes. Well bottom line is- i guess I am just trying to find people who will validify and justify me ES-1 purchase. Obviously I cant know which amp. is better until I hear them both with my own ears.

Grammar and typos aside, I honestly cannot understand what you are saying. I am not sure how anyone can validify your purchase, whatever that means. You say you love your ES-1 and are "stunned beyond belief" by it, presumably with Stax O2s. Nobody needs to validate or justify that because that is your opinion. Great, enjoy your rig in good health.

However, you also seem to be dead set on asserting that the new HeadAmp KGBH SE is "probably not worth it," which seems to mean not worth switching from your ES-1, and that an ES-1 is "more desireable" than the KGBH SE because of tube-rolling options. These comments aren't appropriate given that you have never heard the KGBH SE. Posting second-hand comments from an unnamed person who said he didn't listen to the amp for very long and didn't even have a clear preference doesn't make your assertions any more appropriate and certainly doesn't make your assumptions any more valid.

I have a SinglePower amp (my third) and love it as well. That doesn't mean that I should assume other amps that are released are better or worse than mine until such time as I have heard them both myself. You said the same thing at the end of your post, but yet you still make all kinds of assumptions about how and why the ES-1 is probably better.

Oh Al...why do you insist on trying to use logic in a case that clearly defies it? I shall now resume stuffing my fingers in my ears and screaming, "NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH !!!!!!!"

logic is stupid.

"In 1931, the Czech-born mathematician Kurt Gödel demonstrated that within any given branch of mathematics, there would always be some propositions that couldn't be proven either true or false using the rules and axioms ... of that mathematical branch itself. You might be able to prove every conceivable statement about numbers within a system by going outside the system in order to come up with new rules and axioms, but by doing so you'll only create a larger system with its own unprovable statements. The implication is that all logical system of any complexity are, by definition, incomplete; each of them contains, at any given time, more true statements than it can possibly prove according to its own defining set of rules."

one possible interpretation of that in simple english is this...even the most basic math is inconsistent. that in itself does not bode well for higher math or for any other form of learning that has a mathematical basis.

for someone to have discovered something so paradoxical, it was devastating that he died of the very paradox himself. how he reconciled being one of the greatest unknown mathematician to have ever lived with the fact that what he had done all his life was inherently flawed, is well beyond me. i figure it would be the same if the pope himself discovered a proof for the non existence of god. godel stopped eating because he thought that someone was plotting to kill him by poisoning his food so he stopped eating altogether.

one of my favorite stories is a very well written piece about kurt godel by josh potter.

Pindeldyboz: An Incompleteness Theorem by Josh Potter

it is fairly short and a highly recommended read.

closing remarks - never say "logic is stupid" not because there might be a giant math nerd trolling the forums but because that very statement might be recursively paradoxical in the nth degree!

enjoy the evening

Thanks man.

BTW, reading Hofstadter's GEB changed my life--literally.

I guess what I ment to say at the end of my post is that I HAVE NO IDEA IF MY ES-1 IS BETTER OR WORSE and that I am just going out of my way looking to justify my purchase- which is rediculous- I should as you said just enjoy it.

So essentially, CJ, what you're trying to say is that all logic is flawed. I love it.
