Owners of Senn HD600 and Norah Jones CD

Any of you hear any distortion in the 1st track between 1:58mins and 2:00min, in Norah Jone's album Come Away With Me ?

I am using a X-Can v2 amp even when I switched to my friend's Sudgen Headmaster, I still hear the distortion.

Is it because due to the pitch of her voice or is my cans faulty?

No, it's because they had the levels too high when recording or mastering and ruined the record. To hell with quality, let's make it LOUD! Typical these days. The new Jayhawks is also ruined in this manner.

maybe CD is scratched?

CD is brand new, just got it yesterday. Anyway, I am not too sure if it is distortion, it just sounds a little fuzzy on the left side of my HD600 cans.

Just wish to find out if any one of you have the same problem?

as beagle said, it's probably been compressed to the point that there's significant clipping.

to avoid this you can buy music from people who actually care enough about their product to make sure it's not mixed by green-eyed twirps.

I've noticed this too. I also have noticed it to happen a couple of other times when she brings the volume of her voice up for a longer peroid (a couple of seconds or so).

I also agree with what Beagle has said. It is the ways in which the album was recorded. Not enough care was put into the recording Too bad!

I perceive distortion on some of the CD's by Ministry and Corrosion of Conformity.

I think it is mostly on the guitars though.

If it's distortion like her voice slightly breaking up, that is distortion within the CD. Another Headfier mentioned the same thing to me, and I confirmed it for him.

I've heard it too...I still love the CD though.

If it is the problem with the CD recording, I guess I just have to wait for the Japanese import version if they are any.

I also noticed distortion at 1:38 on the same track.

this album is rather loud. I can't use it for sleeping music on my D-25S because on minimum even with an ER4S adapter, my KSC-35s are too damned loud for me to fall asleep to this album.

chances are a year ago you would not have noticed. whether you recognise it or not, you are now audiophiles. your ears have been trained to be more discerning. congratulations. ah, compression. any good DACs out there that do away with it?
