Edition9's for $1085 - Page 4

In an ideal world I would have keep the RS-1 with the Ed.9 but unfortunately I'm living in Canada and everything is getting more expensive these days here so I will have to take a final decision soon. (RS-1 + Alo-780s or just the Ed.9.)

I already got some interesting offers for my RS-1 and I'm now thinking about selling my ALO-780Vs to keep just one pair of headphones at home. (The Ed.9 of course.)

But there's one big potential problem that I fear, how is the isolation on the Ed.9 compared to the 780s?? 50% of my listening is at bedtime and I don't want to disturb my wife. (With the 780s, I can crank the volume loud without disturbing my wife.)

Thanks

BTW, I have talked with Northernsound and Ultrasone today.

Here are the informations that I got :

- Northernsound will receive a new shipment of Ed.9 in the next days.
- They don't want to sell me the Ed.9 because I'm living in Canada
- The Edition 9 is still in production.
- Ultrasone has a new distributor in North America, Ultrasone Inc. based in California.

I will contact Ultrasone Inc. tomorrow to see how I can purchase the Ed.9 for a delivery in Canada.

If it's a choice between keeping a 780 and Edition 9, or keeping RS-1 and Edition 9, I vote the RS-1 only because the Edition 9 will be an acceptable substitute for the 780. You don't need two similar high end phones when all you can afford are two high end phones total.

The Edition 9 leak a little more sound through the shell than my ALO 780v, and isolate a little less too. Isolation is not bad, just not as much as the 780, and if I recall even stock they block sound coming in and out a little better.

humm..

This might be a showstopper for me, I need a complete isolation like I already have with my ALO-780V.

I will perhaps purchase the ALO-780J instead of the Ed.9

UPDATE : I have finally decided to pull the trigger on the Ed.9

I could, if I liked being in debt, therefore I don't. Heck, I could go out tomorrow and charge up a whopping $25,000 on my credit cards, but it's a good thing I don't

For everyone else, I sent a similar assessment to pfillion in a PM:

If the RS-1 (or HD600) isolation/sound bleed is rated as a 0/10, and the HFI-780 (or HD25-1) isolation/sound bleed is rated as a 10/10 - the Denon D2000 would be a 4.5/10, and the Edition 9 would be an 8.5/10

The whole saying goes like this:

i do not like this thread at all
i do not like it in the fall,
i do not like the headphone's call,
"buy me buy me, till your wallet's small"

they call from near, they call afar
they make you want to see the stars
and unlike silly green eggs and ham,
I'm happy with my 9's, I am.
