Wireless mouse recommendations

Alas, my Logitech wireless mouse has served me 7 good years but is falling apart at the seams.
Where else to ask for a new recommendation but to my fellow gear hounds here at Head-Fi? This is for use on a home PC (not laptop).

Only tried and tested, please

Logitech G7, the newer black/carbon model. I have it and it works great, especially for gaming

Discontinued, but if you can find it, the Logitech mediaplay. I have one and it's amazing, I'm so confused why they discontinued it. 11 buttons! Main feature is the media buttons, play/pause, next/ff, previous/rw, and volume, all that in addition to left, right, middle, scroll, sidescroll, and back and forward. A must for audio, the media buttons work with winamp, wmp, mp classic, foobar2000 etc (although they only work when the player is active, except for winamp, winamp you can control when any window is active). Honestly, I can't see any other mouse being better fitted for audiophiles. Also, if you don't want 2 AA batteries, for some reason, it works with 1! Battery life is very good as well, >1 month with my NiMH AAs.

Over the past few years, I've owned/used:

Logitech MX700
MS Wireless Optical Mouse 5000
Logitech MX500
Logitech MX300
Logitech MX518
Apple Mighty Mouse
Logitech MX Revolution
Logitech VX Nano
Logitech VX Revolution

I have to say, Logitech is the on manufacturer that consistently makes mice that I really like. There have been problems with some of them that I have had, but Logitech has pretty much always issued replacements very promptly.

Logitech's Revolution mice are absolutely phenomenal in my opinion. The scroll wheels on these really makes everything else feel like a toy. My two favorites are the VX Nano and the MX Revolution. These are two very different mice, one being very compact and intended for laptop use, the other being very large and suited to desktop use. That said, I have replaced my MX Revolution with the VX Nano. Its small, light and on top of that it I find it to be extremely comfortable.

Its certainly not the kind of mouse that you rest your entire hand on. I think that has a great deal to do with its comfort... Yo uare forced to hold the mouse lightly by the sides instead of using it as a hand rest.

I say try out both the MX Revolution and VX Nano... See which suits you best, and get it.

Ill vouch for the MX Revolution too. Ive owned quite a few Logitech mice, and this one is by far the best. My favorite feature is the free wheel mode...you can navigate big music libraries or playlists with ease.

Thanks for your replies, so far.

I should have said that I just need a simple 2 button (with a single scroll wheel) wireless mouse. No gaming, just surfing and writing.
My current Logitech is dated 2000, so it's given me eight years of trouble free service.

I looked on CNET (which usually gives good viewer reviews) and there are mostly Microsoft mice .

Personally, I'm not a big fan of MS mice. The one I had didn't hold up as well as my Logitech mice had. Also, the scroll sheel felt cheap and the complete lack of tactile feedback while scrolling was disconcerting.

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find a good simple 2 button mouse anymore. Do yourself a favor and try the MX Revolution or VX Nano. Neither of these are 'gaming' mice, they are just nice mice with a few extra buttons which can definitely come in handy once you get used to having them.

The Logitech MX620 is pretty comfortable (used one at work), had forward and back buttons also to make browsing even lazier

I still vote for the G7 though. Nice and light, comfortable to use. Also has variable sensitivity in case you do want to do some photoshop stuff. The hot-swappable batteries are great. I use mine A LOT and it usually lasts 2-3 days on a charge. When it dies, take 10 seconds to swap them (it comes with 2)

Honestly, that kind of battery life would drive me nuts.

With my VX Nano I easily get over 2 months of battery life on two rechargeable AAA batteries. I have four of them which cost me like 10.00, and just swap them as needed.

You make it sound like a horrible ordeal to change the batteries, it's not. It comes with 2 battery packs, push a button it pops out... pop the charged one in... put the dead one in the charger, it takes 10 seconds max. No fiddling in drawers for batteries, no trying to remember where you left the spare batteries...

Its not a horrible ordeal, I'd just rather not deal with changinr/charging on a weekly basis.

I am still using a Logitech MX500 now and I love it. I want to try try another mouse, not because I need a new one, just for something new. Honestly I read about the G7, I want it's "G5's performance" but it has such horrible review from newegg.

I want to give wireless a last chance. I'm looking at either the MX620 or LX8, but some reviews said the MX6xx are cheaply made and it looks like it with the larger gap between the parts of the mouse. I really want a mouse that shape and feel like the Logitech MX500/G5 but is wireless, durable and good battery life. I might just settle for the G5 in the end.

My mouse upgrade path went link this: Logitech MX1000->Logitech G7->Razer Copperhead->Razer Death Adder.

The top wireless mouse in my opinion is the Logitech G7. You just have to get used to swapping out batteries every day with heavy use.
