I need them for producing music and they sound unbalanced. Good mixes sound bad on  this headphones. I dont know why are people saying that they are good for producing. I listened hardwell - spaceman and it sound so unbalanced. This track scares the **** out of you in the club, but there you can hear that anoyng white noise that is boosted. The worst thing is that ears starts to hurt and I dont know why. I am producing EDM so they are useless. Mixes on speakers sound different. I am using fiio e17 amp. So what sould i do to make them sond good. I have a 20 dollar headphones and I cant say that k701 is better. WTF

Look into the bass mod. It just may do the trick for you.

Or grab a pair of K712 AE or K712 memory foam pads and call it a day.

My K 701 is # 29222. Post your number people!

# 32185  On my head now - sometimes female vocals can be so seductive...other times they overwhelm...but when it works it works brilliantly.

Greetings all!

New member of the K701 family - setting up a bedroom system and recently picked up an essentially new pair (<10 hours) a couple of days ago:

They're now patiently waiting for the "new" Asgard 2 that I bought from a member here to show up...color me excited :k701smile:

It will be interesting to hear what your thoughts are of that pairing. The K701 is a little on the bright side as is the A2, so I would like to know what the synergy is like for you.

I've had my K701's for a few weeks now and loving them more and more. For reference, I have Grado 325is and SR80i. I still love my Grados, but the AKG's are really growing on me. I found out about the bass port mod the other night and that really made a difference. If I could reduce the bass maybe 1/2-1 dB I think it would be a little more balanced. But, that's just my preference. They are by no means bass monsters.

I know from reading through some of the posts for this bass mod that some were curious as to actual measurements for the difference. I haven't read every single post, but I haven't run across anyone that has posted these test measurements. I did run this test myself as I do spend quite a bit of time running response measurements on my headphones and various audio equipment. I don't have an elaborate setup but it works and it gives a pretty good relative comparison. I wouldn't publish the numbers as specs, but it works for me. I will see if I can post the image in here in case anyone is curious. This is a before and after, but a few weeks lapsed from my original measurement. You will see a slight difference in the response in the high end. Never mind that, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the bass mod. My setup was torn apart since then and I had to set it back up. So, that may account for the slight difference. Otherwise, IF this mod affected the 1KHz point at all, since that is reference point, then that could account for it as well. I did this real quick last night just to get an idea. So, take it for what it's worth.

I'm planning to replace the cable of the K 701 with one that I'm making with a 4-pin XLR adaptor. Does anyone know what colour cable goes to what, and what pin of the 4-pin XLR they correspond to?

I'm guessing red = left+, black = left-, yellow = right+(?), white = right-(?)

yellow = 1

white  = 2

red  =  3

black = 4

#10235 here.  I guess I'v had these things for a while :).  Does anyone know when the k701s transitioned from the thin ear pads to the thicker ones that are used now?  Has anyone went from the thin pads to the current ones?  Did it change the sound?

I had the two colours switched (White = 1, Yellow = 2, Black = 3, Red = 4). How do you know determine the pin number?

Easy, I had a peak inside my K701 balanced connector.  Back then I used a mutimeter...no I must not have as I never opened the K701, how the hell did I work out the grounds?  I must have just asked members here.  For you, seeing as you have opened them it's easy with a mutimeter set to continuity...look up stereo TRS plug connector and their L, R and ground sections and use a mutimeter to check for continuity.  Confirm the left channel colour and the other wire is obviously left ground...etc.

But I have found the community here has never let me down with DIY questions.
