Where is the Earmax? - Page 17

Does the included power supply of the earmax pro can operate in 120 and 220v electricity at the same time? should I order a special 220v PSU for using in my country?

Hoe many of you guys listening with the earmax to fast and dynamic music like trance and metal? what can you say on the earmax performance in those regions?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

YEAH..! just pulled the trigger on an earmax pro guys! can't wait to get it and listen to some extreme tube sound. I think I might as well order me some new tubes for it. I will begin with a pair of sylvania's for the 6dj8 and a mullard for the 12at7, and see how it goes.

enjoy!

I have a question. is 6922 basically the same tube as 6DJ8?

thanks kees, can you recommend me some bassy warm tubes with creamy mids for the earmax pro? I want to get some tubes so they will arrive with the amp.
how about a mullard 12AT7? I am open for suggestions for both 12AT7 and 6DJ8 tubes.

Earmax Pro EMP Hum Not 2 Me

Of all the amps I have owned (15 or so--tube amps almost all), the Earmax Pro is the only one that is DEAD QUIET turned all the way up. DEAD QUIET. Not even tube hiss. I can say that of none of the other amps I have owned--none, except EMP. For me.

Since I still have seven or so amps--and my goal is to get down to two, I was thinking of selling the EMP. I have been selling stuff off for last few months.

Rather than do an IC in the sales forum, can I ask someone here what the going rate for a used EMP is. It would have pair of Bugle Boy Ecc88 and an AMperex D-getter ECC81 (12AT7) that all test well.

They almost never come up for sale, and I know why. The non pro version I saw recently on the Sales forum for $400.

What is reasonable price for nice condition EMP?

Please email, PM or post. Thanks much.

Hey guys, just got the earmax pro and wow! this thing is much more smaller than I thought it is. probably the smallest home amp I owned (and saw) ever.
anyway, it looks awsome and I will try it later this evening. Is the proper way of turning it on and off is to use the button on the power supply??

what are the stock tubes? I can see that the 6DJ8's on the sides are siemens D71...what are those?? what sound should I expect?
and in the middle there is a 12AT7 with "TAD" written on it? what is this?

anyway,I got s mullard 12AT7 and a pair of sylvania 6DJ8's on their way.

I am so excited! this is the first time I will feel the "real" tube sound...
should I try the stock tubes? or should I wait to the nos tubes that I ordered? I don't want to get a bad first impression

EDIT: ah, and I forgot to ask...is there any way to remove the cover from the tubes? I can't see how I can roll tubes with it.

There are better tubes than the stock ones, but I enjoyed my HD650 and Earmax SE for almost a year. There is nothing wrong in trying out these tubes, then you simply will have knowledge base to decide what will you do next.

Congratulations! The Earmax is a realy nice amp.
Yes, you switch it on an off with the switch on the power supply.
The stock tubes are pretty good. I used it with many other tubes (also Mullards), but I am actually running it with stock tubes at the moment.

thanks. is there any way to remove the metal frame from the tubes? it seems very uncomfortable to roll tubes with it.
and what is the recommended warm up time before start using the amp?

I never remove the frame, but it can be done quite easily. It is fitted like a spring with the ends in little holes on the front an back. Just gently pull out te ends that go in the base.
