beyerdynamic dt880 vs denon d2000 - Page 2

Kinda responding to a dead thread lol.

I'm looking to get the DT880s unamped at 250 ohms. You said it will sound "alright"? I know that there will be improvements with an expensive amp, but I will not be amping. Is $220 worth it for these cans unamped?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I own the DT880 250 ohms, they are garbage without an amp, seriously.  Skullcandies can beat them unamped.  Amped is a whole different world though.

I have an Hifiman EF-2 (for my HD600's), Between the DT880/DT770 and D2000, which one would be a nicer complement/addition for bass? (house music and rap) Love the balance of the HD600's and EF-2, but additional bass would be nice for a banger. (Anything else south of $300 from either Beyerdynamic or Denon I should consider?)

Portability is not a consideration--man-station (home) use only.

Comfort is quite important. If it's down to 2 cans, both the same in all aspects apart from comfort, I'd choose the comfortable one 9/10 times.

I try to seek out higher quality flac's, but house is rarely found beyond standard 128/256 mp3's

Thanks in advance!

btw: I bought my brother ATH M50's, and while the bass is a 'bit more there', for me, even when amped through the EF-2, they were too great a step down from the HD600's. Essentially, and HD600 with more substantial bass would make me happy, but I know that may not be possible due to open vs closed, at a reasonable price anyways.

Two wildly different headphones for different purposes. The DT880 are neutral with excellent detail and impact, the 600Ohm variance needs a good OTL tube amp with good driver tubes to shine. The D2000s on the other hand are bass-head phones that don't need an amp. I listen to a lot of electronica but I listen to the music, not just the bass like I know a lot of people do. I suppose you have to determine what's most important; sound quality or bass.

In a nutshell I'd consider the D2000s a refined Bose or Beats type of headphone. The DT880s I'd consider a stones throw away from Sennhesiers HD800, then again that's my biased opinion.
