E-MU 0404 USB Mic-Input Repair and Headphone Channel Gain Adjustment

Thread Starter
I recently purchased a second hand EMU 0404 USB, and upon installing the drivers and hooking it up discovered that the mic inputs of my non-returnable device aren't what I wanted. One is blown and produces a ticking sound, the other is so quiet that I get a SNR of 10 at best with the input's gain all the way up.

The headphone amp is also a little imbalanced in that the right channel's volume is slightly above the left's at low volumes.

The 1/8th inch out works fine, and the S/PDIF input sync to an external signal just fine, sans computer.

Does anyone think this unit is worth repairing, or do you think I would be better off buying a new unit?

Thanks

Open it up and take a look - I'll bet that someone has been monkeying around with the guts. I'm envisioning some doofus with a radioshack 15w soldering iron, a baggie full of blackgate capacitors and delusions of grandeur.

if I'm right, you'll be able to tell from the damage done how hard it might be to fix it.

How long have you had it? Is sending it in to Creative Labs, or the seller a viable option?
