THE SITHEISER : A Fully Modded Sennheiser HD590 (w/pics) - cable upgrade

Hey there!

I have before you the SITHEISER

First of all this is my first full headphone mod.
This was done using a stock HD590 that had been hardwired.

This is the first headphone cable I have ever made and it turned out awesome.

It is:
- Full Quad Braid (4 conductor)
- Gold connectors and used silver solder
- 18AWG OFC (99.997%) Copper that is microstranded (for durability).
- Duel Entry (previously single entry)

Improvements

- More treble/sparkle
- More Bass extension
- Much More balanced
- Great Vocals
- Much more soundstage
- Slightly more detail
- Better imaging
- Faster
- Much less dark sound than previously

They also look a lot nicer now too!

The old cable was smaller than one of the new conductors. It is literally now about 15x's the previous bandwidth.

On to the PICS!

Great! Now you need to paint the HD590's red and black to match the cable

When I 1st read the headline I wondered if you had forgotten an "H".
Glad to see your efforts though. My only concern is the twist in the cable. It should give to better transparancy in the top midrange and treble, but bass might be less pronounced.

Why do you call it the Sitheiser? Does it heat your bottom?

The bass now goes deeper, but it is less pronounced. The detail and better spectrum make it very much worth the trouble. It plays vocals jsut so well now.

Before I kept it strictly as a pop music or therater headphone. Now I can see myself usings it almost as much as the k400.

My guess is the sound kicks him so hard he has to sit.

What's your opinion that the general consensus is recabling is snake oil and you couldn't tell the difference if you did a DBT?

They look pretty good though!

I was wondering why the twist in the cable would cause the bass to be less pronounced?

These things were DARK... I mean really dark...darker than 650's and put some denons to shame in that regard.

Now, it is far more balanced. I Think that it is using just biggest and higher quality conductors.

DBT isn't what I was concerned with.

I had a tiny and annoyingly long cable. I made myself one that is 5ft. and much more sturdy.

BTW: I am a chick - see my avatar.

General consensus is that recabling can make a notable and worthwile difference.

So you weren't always a chick?.. Sorry couldn't help myself.

That's a unique cable, although I am unfamiliar with that headphone's sound, so I have no constructive questions.

Tread carefully; I wouldn't want to send the wrong message to a DIYer...

I'm not a natural english-speaker, but, isn't a "chick" abusive term? Why do you call yourself like this?

great job on your first germania. and i see you did the mysterious pose for your avatar, i really like both.

but calling your nice new cable 'insane' really is unfair to it i think.
