Stacker II - the next generation Hybrid

I have been waiting for this day for quite some time.

Runeight has been hard at work these past few months, throwing out many concepts which have been prototyped and tested. Some worked, some had a few teething problems but all of this has culminated in an extraordinary hybrid amp which achieve a few goals.

1. High end audio ; nope make that no.2
1. DIY
3. A tube rollers dream - octal and noval , 6.3V or 12.6V
4. Modular to keep future options open
5. I could keep listing but why not check out the Intro post at HW

If this doesn't get your juices flowing, you must be a hardcore SS servant.

Nice... I'll have to keep an eye on this!

Very interesting stuff...thanks for the heads-up, dBel!

these are exciting times - an awful lot of thought has gone into this to make it a first rate amp which should have wide appeal.

It is not for noobs however , the voltages need due care but the design itself has been well worked out to make it safe for most..dB

Hopefully my funds will have accumulated again by the time this is ready for release

Wow! We've had some nice new designs roll out lately. I will definitely watch this thread develop and might end up with another project. I could use a high-end hybrid on the amp stack.

should the cap be directly on the plate of the input tube like that? i have never seen that before.

it looks like it will be a sweeeeet amp.

Basic component cost is not unreasonably high , a rough estimate is around $170, which includes transformer/s but not boards. I am sure someone will want to add boutique caps .

afraid you've lost me here? ..dB

aaaah - you've recalled the ptp thread - yep, but I guess you need to see the schematic to make sense of it. runeight will post full disclosure in the not too distant future

on the schematic in the linked thread there is a 47uf cap BETWEEN the plate resistor for the input tube and the tube. shouldnt it be before the resistor?

feel free to shoot me down if im wrong, but i think it may be a drawing error.

...and I'm the sucker to do it ;D I almost always end up spending more than the average, but I'm putting this down as the next project

Is the name very definite? When I first saw the thread title I was thinking what does a computer case or weight-loss/energy pills have to do with amps...haha ;D

Great, just what I need. Another amp project I think my wallet has gone numb and doesn't feel the pain anymore.

Yes, a no-nonsense design with the ability to roll many "audio tubes" into this amp in the input/tube stage, plus... the well performing PPA-like buffer, at a very reasonable cost will sure make this amp a dream for hardcore hybrid amp lover/DIY-er.

I am not very familiar with this amp other than knowing mains built it and it is said to sound fantastic. I think the cap placement has to do with the fact that the sooper has a hollow state psu with both tube rectification and regulation. Normally the RCR networks are to smooth out the ripple which is not required here. Perhaps runeight will enlighten and educate..dB

Being a history buff, would someone shoot me an email about the 'theft' of prior runeight designs? Knowing it would not live to see the light of day in open forums, I am curious (just for my own personal edification) to know the circumstances of that, causing a lack of open analysis and debate.

Edit: Thanks for the replies - duly noted, with no surprises.

Sorry for back to back, but a wildly different tangent - quality compared to the MillettMax? More voltage swing? Best tube compliments (in your humble opinions) to date?

Oh, and, of course, I would want to build balanced, so form factor for casing, including PSU?

Yes, I know - too many questions.
