Below is -=Germania=-'s handy work for your viewing pleasure. The unit was supposed to be an opus dac with usb receiver and a 41hz amp 6 t-amp. The amp featured below is a is a prebuilt TA2020 amplifier.

Most of the pics are from the powersupply that stopped working a few minutes after turning the unit on. Comments welcome. ^^

I'll be posting more shots later.

Biggie.

While I've only built one amp, and do not hold a professionals opinion on this, I think It's pretty obvious that shipping could not have been the whole problem here. This unit looks designed to fail IMO, and I have to wonder if that was indeed the intention. It's not beyond the scope of probability that she was in over her head, couldn't get the unit to work right, and as such packed it in such a way that it could be blamed on shipping. Her prior posts sure seem to not only support this, but actually lay the groundwork.

In either case the workmanship is sub-par, and I would consider her products as 'buyer beware'. That's not even mentioning the false promises and time factor.

I'm especially fond of the power supply mounted on packing tape using only 2 of the 4 screw holes (because the other 2 didn't line up). You're lucky it didn't short live AC to the chassis Biggie since it doesn't appear that she wired safety ground for you either. What a shame to waste a good DAC like that.

Was the PS just not worthy of standoffs? I see the other parts got standoffs. Hard to tell from the shots but it looks like there is clearance to add standoffs.

This is completely shoddy work from even a non-professional, non-technical person's standpoint. This "product" is (1) not as advertised or ordered according to the buyer; (2) incorporates cheap pre-made products from other suspect vendors; (3) is poorly rendered, and INHERENTLY DANGEROUS in its "design" and execution; and (4) wasn't even delivered in a timely or professional manner. All that adds up to a serious black mark against -=Germania=- as a vendor, and SARN Industries to the extent that entity exists and has any relationship to this sale.

I agree that this thread is misplaced and should either be in the Vendor Feedback Forum with a link and explanation in -=Germania=-'s personal feedback thread. Potential buyers need to see this and those are the likeliest spots they will look.

Are you saying that the amp module is not the one you bought and paid for? Were you informed that you'd receive a different amp module?

If the amp module was switched on you, that is unacceptable and inexcusable.

I'm not an expert on electronics by any means, but YIKES!! That tape on the power supply is not so good!

What is the voltage rating for cellophane?

All the Meanwell psu's I have seen have a piece of isolation plastic sheet under the board. Couldn't that simply be reused here when it was installed?

In the second pic, you can clearly see the serrations you would expect from tearing packing tape.

The way I understand it, Stacy was supposed to build an amp for Biggie, but bought a premade amp and installed it.

we should be careful to put words into other peoples' mouths. only biggie can say precisely what was ordered.

did biggie simply want the 'tripath' style amp integrated along with a usb input board and dac?

many tripath boards come pre-made. that is NOT a problem. (I bought a premade tripath board on ebay so I have a little experience with them).

it seems to me (being one that is not part of this build-for-hire) that she did integrate a tripath amp board. but biggie would have to say if it was the wrong tripath board or not.

the power supply mounting seems to be the big issue, here, I think. switching power supplies are common and are already assembled (they are never DIY kits, that I've found). so that part would not be expected to be hand soldered either.

Wrong, it's only one of many issues.

The bare solder joint in the power supply wiring, that was maybe some attempt at a repair.
The nicked sleeving in the wiring to the power switch.
The complete lack of a case ground (also notice the ground lug of the IEC completely unused).

These are all issues that are extremely unsafe, and quite frankly absolutely unacceptable from anyone selling amps, let alone an MOT.

There is absolutely no regard for consumer safety, and many first time amp builders could do a much better job.

I'd like to hear from Biggie whether this is what he ordered and paid for. If this is what he agreed to, then that's OK. If he received something other than what he agreed to, then that's a different matter altogether from the build quality.
