Sony MDR-EX700LP - Page 5

I really like my EX90's sound signature, but it lacks some bass mostly. EX700 seems to fix this! thats a tease..

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Their frequency response scares me, with that 5kHz-6kHz bump.

That does look a little raised, but it doesn't affect how they sound...

...It might be worth noting (bearing in mind I cannot read Japanese) that they ARE bright until they've got a few hours on the clock, so if these were a virtually brand new pair, that might not factor that in...

Thats quite interesting, I might actually go with this band wagon.. hahaha!! One more question though, does pairing the Ex700 with the A818 produce a lot of hiss.?

Hmm... There is a little there, but certainly not enough to make you run screaming into the hills... I can't quantify it, but certainly its only noticeable on very quiet passages / breaks, and even then not particularily bothersome

Interesting new set. Slightly cheaper than the triple-fi and from the posts, might be more comfy. My credit card is screaming. Duncan, can you give more comparison observations between the triple-fis against these? Appreciate your input.

Agreed. They are a little bright and produce a bit of sibilance right out of the box.

Duncan-Are you happy with the stock buds? I've found the comply tips to be a welcome upgrade, increasing isolation a good deal and simplifying insertion.

FWIW I wear mine backwards with the cable pointing upwards which then loops around my ear. So instead of the titanium facing forward it instead points backwards. I find them comfortable in either fitting profiles.

Sid, which model of comply tips are you using and will fit the EX700? Also do you have a link where I can purchase them??
Also can you talk about a little bit more when you take the foam out of the EX700 what's the adv and dis-adv?? Can I put the foam back after I have removed them?

Hi Marcus...

Is there anything specific you'd like to know (which is better at what kind of music etc), or is it just a very generic opinion you're after?

Hi Sid,

I'm more than happy with the stock (dark blue insert, still cannot remember if that is ML or LM lol) tips... I will check out the Complys at some point (I don't have them with me, they've been relegated at the moment, but will the Shure olives do the same trick??)

...As an aside, I've just been listening the 'The Wall' in anticipation of going to see Roger Waters on Monday night... The EX700s are a seriously smooth operator when it comes to Floyd!!

The T-400 comply tips are the ones that work with the EX700s. I purchased them at complyfoam.com.

Duncan-I did try the Shure olive tips but I felt that the sound was altered (don't remember exactly what I didn't like because I didn't try them for long enough to make any clinical observations) probably due to the much smaller bore on the shure tips compared to the Sony's or Comply's.

Anyone else gotten their's yet? Comments, opinions?

If you want the genuine Japan Edition MDR-EX700SL (the one for all of you who use remote-controlled units, the links is provided right here for your buying pleasure:

For eBay users:

Sony MDR-EX700SL Headphones / Ships from Japan - eBay (item 130220724609 end time May-17-08 01:35:16 PDT) (BuyFromJapan)

or:

NEW Sony inner ear headphone MDR-EX700SL - eBay (item 300166359674 end time May-26-08 06:03:37 PDT) (J-Pop Store)

From Audio Cubes:

AudioCubes.com - Sony MDR-EX700SL EX-Monitor Earphones - MDR-EX700SL -

I recommend getting them on eBay, but only from a dealer named "J-Pop Store" (the user is registered in Canada but imports direct from Sony Japan, so they do sell genuine Sony Jaan product, like my MDR-NC60-JE Version) or from "BuyFromJapan", both less expensive than Audio Cubes (by $50-60 USD) and also the same new-in-retail box Sony Japan-market items as AC. Not only that, but Jun Ibaraki and the good folks from there believe in nothing but 100% customer satisfaction (sorry to sound like an ad), and I have bought tons of headphones/earphones and remotes (all Sony Japan-market) and they ship fast, my most recent purchases of each of my second pairs of EX90SL's and EX85SL's (bought as backups) came in fast, ordered on Sundays and received by the end of the same week, not bad considering they come all the way from Japan direct to my front door here at BIGHMW.com Headquarters here in Washington State!!! BuyFromJapan is highly-recommended by BIGHMW.com Headquarters!!!

Somehow I can't seem to keep from looking at the listings on them, but as soon as I get my economic stimulus check [the minimum, $300 USD], I think I will blow it on the 700SL's and use my imported double-flange silicone buds with them to get even more isolation than even the stock ones (bummer! I wish they had these IEM's in silver to match my MZ-NH700 and RM-MC40ELK setup, do I have to use the [silver] color-matched E90SL's instead???)

Hi Duncan. I guess a rundown on the lows, mids and highs comparison. Majority of owners say the magic of the Trips are the highs despite sight shortcoming with their mids. Very curious how the Sonys compare. Which is better at what kind of music, like you stated, would also be something to consider. Appreciate your ears, mate.

BIGHMW-What are these imported double-flange silicone buds you speak of? Where can you order theses? Thanks!

Duncan-Have you tried amping these things yet? I haven't so far because I pretty much ruined my Portaphile after trying to make a couple of modifications to it. So, unfortunately, I don't currently have an amp to utilize for testing. I noticed you've got a microdac with microamp and was wondering if you'd tried the EX700s with this combo. I might be in the market for an amp in the near future so any suggestions would be welcome. My full size cans of choice thus far are the ATH-A900s so I'm hoping to find something that will work well with both phones.
