Guys, K702 is coming. Be prepare. - Page 7

most front line support/sales reps wouldn't know the company's real plans.

Another Post from the world-wide web:

As of 31/03/2008, the K701 has discontinued manufacture and distribution, pending release of the K702. If you still wish to order the K701, please let us know and we will place a special order, pending availability.

Even more promising is the rumor of the new AKG K702, intended to replace the fantastic K701. While there has been no concrete news as yet, the K701 has now ceased production, and as a consequence of units becoming harder to get, we have stopped ordering from our US distributor. I believe the lack of an official announcement is due to AKG wishing to sell the little stock that remains of the K701 before the K702 is released, to avoid a desperate underpriced clearance of the remainders.

Yeah the price could gets miles lower for the UK. A lot of online stores give them for £250-£300, though if you look for good deals you can find around £180-£200.

These are not new posts. These are the original Aussie posts that helped to get this thread going. So no new news. Exciting, but I hope we aren't just spinning our wheels. Oh, I guess it's fun thinking there could be another Christmas in May or June!

The oil slick is getting a little wider.

This Aussie newsgroup mentions Head-Fi as a source for their intelligence:
Headphonic - Australian Headphone Forums :: View topic - AKG K702?

And this German (or Austrian) newsgroup is coming up with the same arguments:
Translated version of http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-110-7668.html

Of course, the AKG website has a discussion, now the hottest topic on the AKG newsgroups:
Headphones

Who said headphones aren't fun?

The German translation is hilarious. And by the sound of their comments on this thread at head-fi, some of them may be reading equally strange translations.

Emailing a manufacturer to ask about future plans and products is like asking them for free money. They would simply answer "No" while laughing at you in the background. For one most of the people who answer emails have no idea whats happening under the curtains. Another reason would be that if everyone know of a new product, the current sales for their current product out would dry up. Like someone said earlier, will just have to wait and see.

i wonder, if truly, like Ultrasone, the rest of the AKG range and Denon, if the new K702 are not just going to be a cosmetic change????

The rumor mill grinds on.

This Korean site claims that the K702 is due for release "in May"

Another, http://www.erji.net/read.php?tid=522809, from Russia, seems to feel the same way, and quite insistently - the only part of the message that's not in cyrillic.

So far, Headsonic from Australia has not responded to a confirmation on the 702. (Not to be confused with Headphonic | Australian Headphone Specialists: Buy Etymotic, Alessandro, Audio Technica, Ultimate Ears, Talisman, Meier Audio and more, also from Australia.) On the other hand, a nice representative from AKG denied the rumor, and saying there weren't any plans for a new model "any time in the near future."

My browser warned me that two other K702 links, from China, "might harm your computer." Meanwhile, the AKG message board Headphones shows a spike of interest.

The German translation is pretty funny. Here's my favorite comment: "Sorry, eaten a clown." I assume there's an idiom at play, but I like it.

Re the topic of this thread, I guess we'll all find out when we find out.
