No, I am not kidding, and I am getting this from very reliable source (a owner of one of sponsors here)

Yes. Currently AKG stopped making K701 now, only some stocks are left now in the world.

The next flagship of AKG, K702, will come out approx 2 months later. But, it is still unknown about any improvements in sound.

Plus : so they did not name it as K801... I think it is more like a mere year update version.... but we will see.

So the K701 is discontinued now? Any links for proof?

I hope the new version have better mid and low frequencies, that's all I ask for, hehe. Oh yea, fix the damn headband, it gives me headaches.

Interesting. K701 had my interest for some time but that flame shut. I hope K702 would better things up.

I think he will not like that if I mention who is.

Just to mention that I also got the information about incoming new JBL headphones, Denon headphones from him a long time ago, which all proved to be right.

I can send an e-mail to him to ask if it is ok to reveal. But I don't think that I would get 'yes' from that.

Very interesting.... i wasn't fussed on the 701 but perhaps these will add a little something to the mix to make tham more pleasing to my ears.

Please keep us updated if you hear anything else.

Wonderful news for the cheap bastards, who will be able to afford a pair of NOS or used K701.

Yes. I expect a lot of K701 sales here if K702 is improvement over K701. But if there is real improvement, they would name it K801 IMO. But again, even the source has not gotten enough information about this new flagship. So expect any possibilities now.

Who knows if we are getting real successor of K1000?

According to oak3x's link, The improvements may be comfort issues, while not touching other factors.

K701 is already comfortable for me. I am crossing the finger that I will not be forced to spend yet another $300ish. (Just bought DT990!)
