The thing about mods is that their cost plus the price of the gear is usually more than a superior model. You're usually better off selling your gear and using the mod money to buy something better.

No I haven't posted it on AA, I'm not a member there.

Here are the pics sl33py's blog

looking at them now, u can also see the 'high tech' heatsink the guy added to the dac chips lol.

Looking at the pictures, I think he may have been trying to kill you before you could get a refund with that dangerously bad excuse for craftsmanship.

That battery pic is priceless...now thats craftmanship I tell you...probably took him 2 hours to do that alone. LOL

Whenever somebody went on and on about how great ther TRL modded players are, I have always posted to ask what exactly was done for their money?

Multiple times, nobody has given an answer, the buyer or TRL. It still amazes me people are willign to pay that kind of $$$ for a "product" without knowing anything about it. This isn't even conceivable buying anything else.

"So what's under the hood of this $50K car?"

"I don't know but you won't regret it!"

If this guy isolates his window like he puts that gray stuff.... his electricity bill must be through the roof in the winter!

No kidding! That would be embarassing even for somebody's first project, let alone somebody charging a significant amount of money for it.

Yeah. I can solder better than this, and was showing my mates to confirm something weird wasn't happening that was just beyond my electrical/soldering knowledge lol

However bad I was imagining it, it was far far worse. Did he do this from across the room?

However the beauty of modified units like the Modwrights and Exemplars is when bought used, or sending in used gear to modify they are super bargins in there price ranges.

His address is in a very small town in Washington state. (Quincy) I guess it is easier to scam people if it's hard for them to ever see you face to face.

Quincy, WA, USA - Google Maps

Sucker born every day?

Just sold on Audiogon in less than 3 days.....TRL-modded unit:

AudiogoN ForSale: Sony Sacd/Cd Player 595 - Reviewer's

Is a crappy deal at $850 necessarily a better deal at $495?

Ok all I have ever done is soldered a cable together, and I think the joints arent that good because sometimes it doesn't look but I still think I might be able to solder better than him

The battery compartment is epic
