Digital Coax from DAC to Z-5500s.

I recently ordered an E-MU 0404 USB DAC and noticed that my Z-5500s have a digital coax input.

Obviously most cables are the same, sans the marketing gimmicks, but should I look for anything in particular?

How much will the DAC improve the sound quality from the speakers? I wouldn't imagine as much as it would from a pair of cans, but just trying to gauge it.

Bump.

IIRC, even composite video cable can be used with good results for digital coax.

Also, the DAC should improve the sound of your speakers proportionally to the headphones, but given the specific speakers you're running I dunno if the difference would be that great.

The Z-5500s already have an integrated DAC, but I'm hoping the 0404 will make a noticeable sound improvement.

I'll have to give the composite cable a try.

If you're connecting to the 5500's with a coaxial cable, then you're still using the onboard DAC of the 5500's. I don't know how you hooked them up before, but the 0404 will just be your transport if I understand you correctly.

Oh, yeah, I misread your situation. The 0404 won't affect the sound of the speakers if you're using coax out.

Is there anyway to use the DAC as a DAC and not just a transport?

Uh, the speakers should have stereo inputs, but I'm not sure about those specific logitech's. If they do, just use RCA's from the output of the 0404 to the RCA inputs of the Z-5500's, though I think that you will forfeit 5.1 if you do so, not that it matters with music.
