Resurrecting an ancient thread.. what do you mean by leaving an end 'floating'? I understand that it's just not connected.. but is there something that needs to be done to keep it from hitting the other contacts? Like, cutting it short or taping it up?..

I'm new to this whole cable idea.. so.. yea

Um...I was wondering if I could simply cut out extra cable from headphones I used to use before. The break was high up, so I know that the rest of it is intact. And I also don't need so much length, just about half a metre. So...any ideas?
