2.0 Computer Speakers

Looking for help on a ~$100 2.0 system, something like the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 (which I've heard and liked given that I didn't have high expectations or anything). I'm particularly looking for people who can compare the Klipsch and the Creative GigaWorks T40 which pretty much seems like the only other option at this price range/type. I own a Swans M10 for my own use and am aware of better sounding systems, but I want only 2.0 recommendations here because of space constraints. The small footprint and easy portability from room to room in a house is essential, not to mention the no-brainer installation (for the rest of my largely computer illiterate family), so bookshelves + T-Amp would not be what I'm looking for here. Thanks!

Wow... that's freaky. I posted this exact same question on another board today. I, too, am looking for an ~$100 2.0 setup. I'm trying to replace my Klipsch ProMedia Ultras - just as a word of warning, I'm the second owner I know who has had to junk them because of a problem with the volume control. My left channel drops out often, and I have to fiddle with the volume knob for 5 minutes to get it to come back. Klipsch was NO HELP at all. They don't service this model, and pretty much told me to buy new speakers. The problem has existed for a while (it began while I was still in warranty), but my dealer went out of business so I can't prove date of purchase. Obviously Klipsch didn't care. Oh well, that's life.

Anyway, I'd recommend you stay away from the ProMedias - I'm also looking at the T40s - they look pretty good. I also like the look of the Audioengine 2s, but they're a full $200... Anyone else have any ideas?

Didn't realize the ProMedias weren't in official production anymore. Looks like I'm gonna get the T40's, and I'll comment here when I get a chance to listen.

I would try for some Swans M10, although they are 2.1's but with a small desktop woofer.

Stretch our budget a little. AudioEgnine A2 or AudioEngine A5. The A2 was reviewed by stereophile, and they seemed to really like it.

Okay, got them pretty quickly (overnight using ground shipping from ANTOnline @ Amazon). Very bass light, even when compared to the Klipsch and Swans. Doesn't sound too bad though. I like the Swans since they're the same price but a lot better, so if you can afford to put the sub somewhere, it's worth it. But for 2.0s they're pretty good. They're a little bigger than the Klipsch.

Good to know as I just ordered the Swan M10s and had considered getting the T40 instead since it was available locally. Let me know how the T40s perform as they would go great with my laptop.

they did, but it was mostly because of their ability to get speaker sound into situations where it was not normally possible.

Can you explain that a little?
