Speakers for PC for Music?

I am looking for some speakers for listening to music on my computer. I don't really want to spend more than $100. After some research I am looking at:

M-Audio StudioPro 3
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1
Swan M10

I do most of my listening with Sony MDR-V6's which are accurate to the point of being sterile, and I am planning on trading them for some Grado's sometime soon. So if the StudioPro 3's are that sterile I don't know if I would like them. The Klipsch looks like quantity over qualtity to me, and I don't know what to think about the Swan's.

Any advice?

The sony v6 (mdr-7056) are meant for monitoring and they do that excellently. But it is not good for music, infact withthe metallic driver's grill it cause it to be so sharp and the bass cause pain to my eardrums. I haven't heard the others speakers, but I think the Swans M10 are not anythhing like it, it still retain a clean sound, but the mids are sweeter and much more enjoyable. Also grado is going to be a good compromise.

There are a lot of 2.1 speaker systems to choose from at your price point. I have the Klipsch ProMedia's and like them very much. Despite the incredible amount of Bose-bashing around here, I still find the Bose speakers at $100 a good listen, as well.

$100 is not going to get you very good speakers but I'd throw in the Creative T40 as one model you should consider

I know that my options are limited at this price. I work at my desk all day long so I want something decent to listen to music with. If I keep the price of the speakers down and can spend more on some cans. Does anybody have any experience with the M-Audio's?

A lot more expensive, but worth a listen. The mini from timedomain. Very revealing speakers. But you need to stay close for the optimal experience. I personaly heard the mini and the yoshi9, but there is also a smaller sister which i am not familar with. The light which may be more in the wanted price region.


edit: I forgot, keep the mini not to far apart or it starts to sound strange. aprox. 50cm or 1-2 feet apart.

I just ordered the Swan M10's from The Audio Insider. I can't wait to hear them. How did you place the woofer? Would you recommend placing it in between the speakers?

I would place the woofer on the floor or behind you, as you want to feel the rumble and bass of stuff.

the swan m10 subwoofer sounds best at ear level, it is not an ordinary subwoofer, itsfrequency range is slighly higher than a normal sub, giving you a little more midrange Unfortunatly it is way to big to keep on my desk so i was forced to put it under my desk. Maybe under your computer monitor would be a good spot if you have room.

I measured the base of my monitor and checked the dimensions for the sub. It will work for me to place my monitor on top of the sub, which will also put the monitor at a better height for using the computer. Thanks for all your help.

They came in today. I am blown away by the SQ. I definitely was not expecting them to sound this good. Thanks everyone for the recommendations.
