Tube portable audio

I just wondered: Is tube portable audio possible? (Or does it perhaps exist?)

On the advent of the death of the amplifier part of my Cowon iAudioX5, I have toyed with the idea of picking it apart, ripping out the DAC/amplifier, and installing a new set, with the amplifier being tuber. Just toying, since I'm no electro-man and that experiment would require serious commitment on my part, perhaps more serious than I am able to give.

But: Is it possible? Has anyone tried?

Not really (would I buy one), but I will admit that it would be cool to have one- just so I can say my DAP has tubes and yours doesn't

There's the TTVJ amp.

If you want to experiment, take a look at the low voltage tubes that used to be used in car radios. The good news is that those tubes are cheap.

Yeah, I was going to mention the Millett portable. It was pretty decent. Not a detailed as its competitors in its price range, but the bass slam was top class and it had a good sound. I really enjoyed it with the Grado SR60.

Biggest problem with portability and the tubes seemed to be pinging with the vibrations caused by movement.

You left off one choice...

'No, because it's an incredibly lame idea.'

No sweat.

I didn't mean to insult you BTW, there just wasn't an response to indicate that I wouldn't want one, period (as it would necessarily be larger, heavier, less reliable, and consume more power than a solid state unit all for a very questionable increase in SQ.) As to the 'lame' part I was just kidding, sorry.
