I just bought a set of Sony MDR-EX70LP earphones...any mods?

Hey, I bought a set of Sony MDR-EX70LP earbuds from here:

http://www.electronicsemall.com/sonmdrexfolo.html

and, before they get here, I was wondering, what mods would apply to THIS SPECIFIC SET of EX70's? I know there are different types of EX70's, so, uh, what should I expect with this one, and what can I do to change the sound of this one if I don't like it?

There are two versions of the EX70LP - the older version with 2 earbud sizes and the newer with 3 earbud sizes. Despite the fact the link you posted mentions 2 sizes, I'm sure you will really be getting the 3 earbud size version.

tape the holes. reduces and firms up the bass.

Alright, someone tell me about the cord on these things. I've heard some bad stories. How do you wear it, if it's one of th wierd types. Anyone? Also, they'll be going up against my KSC-35's. After mods, how should they compare? I hear these ex70's are inferior to that labtec 840 and the V600.

*pause*

I don't want to spend $36 on a headphone that's worse than the V600! Eep? Can I have a second opinion? *grins*

should I go to Best Buy and get the new plugs? What's best, after mods? EX70's or Plugs?

gluegun, as I said in my portable shoot-out - the EX70 3-tip version I heard WERE NOT very detailed.....they had a decent presentation from a 5 mw MD, but the highs were definetely lacking.

And like I said, they just aren't very detailed. The KSC-35, in comparison, is a high-end phone.

HOWEVER - these lil guys are ridiculously comfy in my ears......AND they isolate about 10 dB. Great if you want to save your ears on a fairly noisy bus or something.........

(Go for em - keep the Koss for quieter enviroments where you can enjoy the music more......and need cans that will allow you to.)

I own the ex70, and I've heard the Portapro which is very similar to the Ksc-35, so...

In terms of sound quality, you would be taking a step down to get the ex70's.

In terms of size and isolation (and portability?), the ex70 wins, and they are pretty damn comfortable....after wearing my ex70's for about 2 months now, I tried an open earbuds, and they just seem really weird and big and verrrry loose, I find they always fall out, the ex70 doesn't do this. I have heard of the ksc-35's being great for exercise and comfort and sound quality and value, and light weight, so basically the ex70 would be a step down from the ksc-35 no doubt.

But if you need a (cheap?) earbud, then i personally don't think you can get much better than this, except for (possibly) the e888 (if they qualify as cheap)
And if you want/need isolation in an earbud, then get the ex70's.

-SapphireModena (no, it doesn't sound girly!)

PS. Based on everything I have ever heard about the plugs, they must suck. Just please don't get the plug...

The Koss Plugs, both old and new versions suck compared to the ex70s (2 tip version)

Alright. So, with and without mods for everything, the two-tipped EX70's are the best of the bunch?

better than new or old koss's, and better than the new 3-tipped EX70?

BUt which am I getting? The 2 or 3? Why is the 2 better? How does the 3 compare to both Koss's?
No from what I've heard the 3 tip is a lot better and that should be what you'd get now. I think KWKart was saying that the Plugs suck even compared to the 2 tip version of the ex70. EX70's are really durable to, mine got attacked by an old guy with a gas powered weed-eater and they still work.

I hear the EX70's are really picky in the exact type and amount of amplification they get...

Especially in regards to the boominess of the bass.

How will they sound connected to a Panasonic SL-CT470?

I think the source (portable CDP) that I listened to them on the first time I heard them (when they sucked big time) was a Panasonic CDP, which sounded fine with many other phones BTW. So I would recommend picking the cans you like, then go find the best amp / source for them.
