My Plasma TV Adventure

So yesterday I decided to buy a plasma TV. I went to my local Circuit City (Harrisburg, about 5 minutes from my apartment) to get the TV. They don't have it in stock. But the Circuit City in Mechanicsburg (also in PA, about 20 miles from me) has 1 left. So I drive out to Mechanicsburg and buy the TV. Awesome.

But the box is huge. Freakin' huge! Before I even saw the box the guys at Circuit City tell me it's not going to fit in my car and that I need an SUV or a pickup truck. But having seen the TV in the store I know it would fit if I took it out of the box. So that's what I decided to do. Of course, the employees can't help me do that because it falls under some improper transfer rule BS. I can understand them not being allowed to help me, but I was alone and trying to load this thing into the back seat of a 2-door '98 Monte Carlo. I took it out of the box, but they could have at least helped me load it into my car, rules be damned, instead of standing there having a smoke and just watching me. And of course, you have to keep a plasma TV upright, which made the process all the more interesting.

In the end, I managed to get the monstrosity into my car without tipping it or banging it on anything and propped it upright in my back seat using the styrofoam that it was originally packed in, and with zero help from the Circuit City employees. I then proceeded to drive all the way back to my apartment (in rush hour traffic no less, which in a way was actually beneficial). Of course, now I had to get the TV out of my car and up the stairs into my apartment, without tipping it or otherwise screwing it up. It was a huge PITA, but I managed to get it done. I set the TV up, thinking for sure that I bootched it somehow, but after turning it on all my fears faded. It works, it looks great, and I'm never going to try to do anything like that ever again.

No free delivery? Even some supermarkets in Singapore have delivery service, if you spend over a certain amount of money...

Enjoy your TV. Look at it this way, if you ever have friends over, sitting in front of the TV, you'll have something to talk/brag/complain about!

Are you talking about the SAAB '93 Yellow Monte Carlo? If so, then there is enough space to load up even a fridge or a kids bed. I outgunned a BMW X5 at IKEA once by stacking away a lot more than them in my car. I don't have the yellow belly, but the midnight blue 2.3T EVO special version.

Nope. Mine's a Chevy.
