No prob. I appreciate your advice and input, Grawk. Do you know how the GS-1000 would fare on a Duet?
I've not spent any time of note with the gs1000. Everything I've heard about it from people who share a lot of preferences with me suggests I'd hate it, so I haven't bothered

As for highs, they have room to go down some, but not to disappear.

I would say the K701... they are all the things that 325i are not! neutral!

k701s won't have deep controlled bass unless you are sitting on a subwoofer.

I dont complaint... but if he feels it lacks bass, he could go to the DT880 then...

I noticed that the frequency diagrams at HeadRoom actually show that k701 has proportionately more deep bass than DT880. But then again, DT880 are closed, which might be useful in circumstances where closed cans are contraindicated.

I've also wondered about the DT770 for that deep bass experience. Neutral? Heck, no! But for those pieces where you enjoy sub 50Hz bass, they seem to offer a lot. (Are those the so called Darth Beyers?). But is the bass controlled?

BTW: The 325i don't lack in overall bass. But they're a bit weak in deep bass, sub 50Hz, at least with my current set-up.

Take my word it will depend a lot on the source you plug them! the AKG K701 are particularly difficult to drive, and as their drives stand far from your hears than DT880's ones they dont seem to have as much bass as the DT880, unless well feed with bass amp! you would be surprised!

(if you think the 325i does not lack bass, you should not listen to the HD580! )

I had a thread about trying out RS-1 and GS-1000 in NYC, and it seems to be a pretty hard job. Probably none available. But they are less than half the home price, so I am considering buying one of them without having heard it first. A calculated risk. BTW: I see a used RS-1 is selling for slightly in excess of 500 at the forums here. Is that a good price for a used unit? Ah ... sold
My review is post #69: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f36/ne...illett-258691/

It is $459 or so, and sounds like a full size desktop amp - the problem is, it doesn't have a DAC, so you have to supply one. I have run my Apogee into it, and my Pico into it, and my iMod into it, and the sound is great.

It is better than the headphone out of the Apogee mini-DAC when running the RS-1. The only reason I was talking about it was because I was just getting familiar with it and was very surprised and couldn't get it off my mind, but I suppose I was off topic.

I thought the ultimate in deep (and controlled bass) was the modded DT770/80, the Darth Beyers.

The L3000 and the PS1 are the kings of bass. The Darth Beyer certainly has bass, it just sacrifices other things for it.

Always the unavailable ones ...

Solan, I couldn't wait and paid 329 UK pounds for the duet when I was in the UK two weeks ago. I have no regrets, and I am listening to it with the RS-1s, which are connected directly to the duet's built-in amplifier. I've also used my SR-71 headamp in the chain (a very highly respected portable amp on here) and I have finally come to the conclusion that the duet's built-in amp is better. I cannot compare with other head amps, however.

Thanks for the report, Jeremy! Better than the SR-71 ... I have never listened to SR-71, but reading Skylab's review, "better than SR-71" sounds like a recommendation.

Let me add from my previous post that this is a high compliment to the duet's amp and not in any way a slight on the SR-71, for which I have the very highest regard.

despite my lack of experience with those two, that's for sure what I've read!
