Cable Eating Cat Hits Gizmodo - Page 2

You (I think), and some folks on "your side" maybe have not yet reached the point where you look in the mirror and ask yourselves why you post such threads, or make the inflamatory responses to other threads that you do. It might be illuminating (and a bit disconcerting) if you did. Is it all about "education" or maybe something else?
Self-knowledge can be scary. Looks like you aren't willing to look into that abyss just yet. As I figured...

Here's another prediction before bed-time. Let's look at your post-count daily average before and after the creation of the new forum just for folks like you. I suspect it will fall off dramatically, as folks like me will not be there to keep arguing whatever bunk you want to peddle that particluar day. And once you no longer get that instant feedback rush, your need to post will grow less and less. I predict within 6 months (probably a sooner) of the creation of the new Skeptics forum, we will have experienced the last post from Mr. bigshot.

We get it, you think the skeptics forum will be a ghost town. Then don't post there.
Oh, I won't-- don't you see that's the beauty of the whole thing! You get to rant and rave in the echo chamber with no one to argue with. No fun for you! You will soon lose interest and drift away, true colors and motivations revealed. Bye bye.

Good night.

Markl has contributed more to Head-Fi than 98% of the members here. His reviews are extremely valuable and have helped tons of us to make smart purchases.

Bigshot,
These cable-bashing threads are tiring in the extreme. We get it, you think aftermarket high-end cables are a rip-off. End of story. Grow the f*** up already.

A skeptic's forum will be *exactly* like this one. Same people, same arguments.

I don't think the believers will want the arguments in there to go unrebutted. For example, if a member wants to ask if a cable really will make a difference, that question will have to go to the skeptic's forum. Are the believers really going to let the skeptics answer that, unquestioned? Any disagreement over how a cable sounds will necessarily have to be moved to the skeptic's forum.

The "problem" certainly won't disappear, nor should it. Healthy debate is, well, healthy. Incivility and hot-headedness is what causes discussions to fall apart. Until that is addressed, nothing will change.

C'mon markl, ya need to lighten up a bit, mate.

If you have confidence in your own ears and judgment, what good is it to get worked up over people who say otherwise?

Oh boy, an Internet fight!

RAWR. I mean. Meow. But seriously, why do people need to argue the same things over and over again. You believe what you want to believe. Just like religion. It's up to you believe what and what not.

This post is a good example of irony

Yes, well, we all get frustrated at times. Those of us who frequently read the forums on Head-Fi and enjoy coming here get a little sick and tired of seeing the same negative posting day after day from the same few people. I'm sure there's not a moderator or administrator here who would disagree with me on this.

We are all well aware of the low-cost components used in the Power 3 by now. What's the point in rehashing the same thing when there's already a 42-page thread on it? Why do some people purposely try to destroy the reputation of a company when they don't even own or haven't listened to any of their products?

At the moment, I'm quite upset with Virtual Dynamics (Rick Schultz in particular) but for an entirely different and completely justifiable reason (that has nothing to do with product quality or performance). Virtual Dynamics is falling apart at the seams; if they keep up their cavalier attitude towards customers, there won't be a Virtual Dynamics around to speak of in 2009. They managed to lose a good customer I brought them, which in turn cost me commission. If I told you how, you'd be stunned.
And this was a customer they had also lost a year ago, too, for a similar situation.
Bad press hurts a company much worse than good press helps them.

You guys seem bound and determined to make this personal. I'm not "being negative day after day". I'm talking about wires, fer cryin out loud. Chill out.

Here's my prediction if a new forum is created. Someone will post a totally subjective and totally unsubstantiated comment in the believer's forum. Someone will quote it and comment in the skeptic's forum. The believer will charge into the skeptic's forum and blow up the discussion with ad hominem attacks. Some skeptic will decide if it's OK for a believer to thread crap in the skeptic's forum, it's OK for him to thread crap in the believer's forum. We'll end up with two forums full of flames instead of one.

The solution to this problem is simple. The five or six people who insist on pushing the discussion towards ad hominem attacks need to chill out and not try to control the discussion. I'm perfectly happy to continue to participate here alongside people of any and all viewpoints. They just have to give me the same respect I give them. Argue your point passionately. Provide supporting arguments. Prove me wrong. Just do it in a polite and respectful manner. I'll be happy to do the same... and we won't need another forum.

See ya
Steve
