B22 amp for speaker / K1000 - Page 3

Hi !

I'm thinking about building a 2 channel beta 22 with a sigma 22 power supply, for my k1000-s, with a gain of 8X, will this give me enough voltage swing to drive them well ? - I don't listen to music loud, so I'd go with the gain of 8X, not 11X so I could use the pot meter past 9 o'clock.

I'd also like to use them with my grados (sr225)

What is your input voltage

I have a martix mini-i on line level output, its around 2V as far as i know.

A source with output of 2V and a gain of 8 will clip before you reach maximum on your volume when using a gain of 8x. On the B22 website, AMB quotes an output voltage of 13.4 Vrms into a 32 ohm load. Assuming the amplifier can deliver the same voltage to the k1000, with a sensitivity of 74 dB @ 1 mW, 13.4 Vrms will deliver about 1.5 watts to the AKG k1000. This gives a maximum volume of about106 dB. If you listen at a moderate average level of about 80 db this gives you headroom for 15 dB peaks plus about 10 dB for softer recordings. This ends up cutting things a bit close. If you really want to be sure to have plenty of headroom you can make a bridged 4 channel amp that will have double the voltage swing and will easily be able to accommodate your needs.

Thank for the fast reply, I think I'll go with the gain of 8x, so I can use it with other headphones too, and I'll have enough headroom, I listen to music at moderate levels, so I can save my hearing for the future , I don't wanna build the 4 board version, don't want to spend that much money now.
