Yup, the sockets will be enlarged by quiet a bit, but it doesn't have much effect on the stock cable in my experience. The westone pins only goes in about half (maybe even less than that) of the distance of the stock pins, so only half of the socket are actually enlarged. When using other after market cables with UE size pins just insert more of the pins inside and there should be no problem.

Hi there, i went searching through the forums (triple fi appreciation thread and the "Buying Headphones? Seeking Guidance?" thread) but couldn't find something that really answered my question. I was wondering how the isolation of the TF10s are in comparison to the UE 700's, especially since I've read a lot of complaints about the fit of the TF10s (i have small-medium sized ear canals so maybe they could work? Currently wearing some really old Denon AH-C252 earphones which have been discontinued for a while).
I also wanted to ask about fit of the TF10s because I normally wear my earphones straight down, but it looks like the size of these ones would make it awkward to wear that way. This is not a huge issue though, as i'm just curious to know if anyone wears these straight down.

thank you in advance smile.gif

I used to wear all my headphones straight down, I don't anymore. Most high end phones now a days are meant to be worn cable over anyways. Soundstage is wider on the IE8s this way I find. I tried straight down with the TF10's, it just doesn't feel right at all, nor does it look right.

Just found some frequency response graph of TF10 TF10x4 TF10x6 from the forums

stock TF10

CX300-SE530-UE10tripleFi.png

UM reshelled TF10x4 (add 1 mid)

untitled.bmp

UM reshelled TF10x6 (add 2 mid and 1 high)

TF10X6.bmp

I don't know much about reading the graph, but the added drivers seems to add more to the bass and mid. they are less of V shape than the original one. If anyone else can get more info out of these graphs please enlighten me. smile_phones.gif

hmm thats interesting, im guessing that no one has done another frequency response test with the latest batch of tf10s? just in case there is some difference?

I got mine during the black friday sale and to my ears the mids on mine don't sound as recessed as what others have said.  They are much more inline with the rest of the spectrum then they are recessed.  Also the highs aren't as bright as I was expecting but they're still very present and forward.  I'd say my 10's are very balanced and might just have a small V-shaped curve but not like what most people hear.

Thats why I'm afraid to get them re-shelled because I don't want the sound signature to change at all.  Unlike a lot of people I have no fit or comfort issues so for me I think it would be a waste of money but I'm going to get a silver cable sometime to see how that changes the sound sig if any.

I also got mine during the black friday sale. No matter what silicon tip i tried, even monster supertips, i found the treble to be a bit too harsh. And i'm not really sensitive to treble, since I find the treble on my HD800s to be enjoyable. Switching to comply foam solved everything for me, including fit. Mids aren't too recessed, especially with foam. wink.gif

Right out of the gate these things had a weird sound on a flat EQ in VLC. I will say I like the fit and finish enough for the 145 I paid but I was slightly underwhelmed coming from the ER4P. After some major tweaking I got the treble and mids locked down enough where the imaging and clarity combined with the MUCH better soundstage vs the ER4P has me hooked. Some of that wild midtone is still missing but not nearly enough to cover what has been introduced coming from that set.

The Bass is only slightly more pounding but it adds a great layer over the entire tone which the ER4P could never quite attain. The general separation of the instruments in more 3D and assured imo. After listening to quite a few demo songs I can say I do not think I will be going back to Etymotic. I don't see a reason to after EQ'ing these. I could see having even better speakers and pricier sets but for 150 this is a steal.

I amp everything with quality power. I haven't even broken these in enough to say any final thoughts about them but I am very happy after facing another 90 dollar Etymotic bill lol. I can honestly say they are a step up in almost every way.

The treble is different and has more of a hiss to hit. When properly EQ'd they can sing but it is still a little different than what I am used to. Maybe a tiny but of sparkle lost and more presence gained but no in way does anything make up for the presentation of the Triplefi headphones. They are pretty awesome at times with HD material. Hard to go back is what I keep saying.

King Crimson and the like sounded very nice and well rounded. The mids need an obvious boost on the EQ but it will be taking some time to get it right. Everything just sounds more resolute and finely imaged. The Ety's had me getting tired trying to amp them loud because of the sharp end in the middle/high plus the lack of any defining soundstage for a lot of material. The Ety's in general just cannot keep up with this modern design imo.

Right now my EQ is a hump and a slight downward fade on the ends with bass regions being slightly higher than the highs. The mids really needed EQing upwards. I just hope they can hold up to loud clean amp sound because the Ety's sometimes could not. They are starting to break in to my ears. I am either getting used to them or they are sounding slightly more stable. I give them a 9/10 for now.

Just posted in my thread, but I shall copy and paste in here as well:

"Oh man, seriously, this morning at 7:44 am (UK time), a post man came bearing a gift, an Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 Pro IEM!!! bigsmile_face.gif

I had been busy since then, but now that I am at home, I can try out these baby's with some lossless records I have; I have selected for today:

  • Nine Inch Nails- The Downward Spiral 2CD and The Slip (at 96 kHz/24 bit) (possibly Ghosts I-IV too),
  • Daft Punk- Alive 2007 2CD,
  • Massive Attack- Mezzanine and Heligoland (possibly others),
  • Metallica- Metallica and Nirvana- Nevermind (96 kHz/24 bit from HDTracks.com),
  • Shimomura Yōko- Drammatica,
  • Kanno Yoko- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society, and finally,
  • Symphonic Fantasies and Symphonic Odysseys- Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu by WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln/WDR Rundfunkchor Köln and Arnie Roth.
  • wink.gif

It is a bit odd, however, that neither my new shoes nor my Comply TX-500 foam tips have come yet, but there is still time for deliveries to be made; I shall be using my last, unopened, Comply T500 foam tips for now.

Going to be an awesome day, and btw, Happy New Years to budding Head-Fi'ers! <3 beerchug.gif".

Update:

Nope, not going to be an awesome day. AT ALL. My new Triple.Fi 10 Pro's are already broken. eek.gif

After I opened the packaging, the left earpiece connector was loose, and just gently tugging it revealed that the connector housing was broken. Indeed, I could lift the connector housing of the left earpiece, and there were internal wires attached. Seriously, this is a VERY BAD DAY!!! I am going to have to ask Amazon.co.uk for a replacement set and will have to wait again. I am very disappointed a depressed right now. frown.gif

Been EQ'ing for over another couple hours in VLC and I have pretty much found my sweet spot for these. Ended with some Fragile NIN recordings as they test the low end really well. The upgrade from my Ety ER4p is considerable enough imo that the 145 I paid was a steal. Damn fine earphones just remember you might have to do some Eq'ing on a 10 band to get the right sound but that is pretty much a given for serious audiophiles. Always use an amp if you can they open up very well.

I have to say the expansive nature of these 3 driver designs is awesome. Single armatures cannot compete and that is that imo. I am noticing a much more 3D like space with these headphones. I still like the ER4P and S but I cannot go back after this. The bass regions are so much better and the treble just needs to be EQ'd for my ears down a bit. I think this is easily the best in-ear driver for 300 and down and maybe in the 400 range as well. Sad to see it discontinued wonder what will replace it....

Sorry to hear about your phones I hope you get a replacement soon. I know how these in-ear speakers love to break all the time. It sucks. I have broke my ER4P's too many times.

I dreamed about these last night haha

Its really going to suck when Amazon and all the other places run out of them because when that happens its over.  They'll still be places to get them but I bet the price goes way up most likely.

I'd like to see what UE is going to come out with next (if any) cuz the UE700 isn't going to cut it.  If they came out with a new 3 driver BA in a more UE700 or Sony XBA style shell with a replaceable cable I'd be all over that.

Amazon should sort you out ok.  Been umming and ahhing about reordering this to tide me over for my reshells to come back, this might well have put me off.  Wonder if you got a customer returned one.

I still see them on the Logitech website...? Anyway, time to get some somewhere ... a newer high-end model won't necessarily be better.

Are you talking about the TF10's because they haven't been on their website for a few weeks now and they where out of them for months before that.
