Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Appreciation Thread - Page 583

Update:

I've had mine for well over a year and I still love them.  They fit good but I probably don't wear them like most over the hear.  I wear them with the cords straight down.  I only wear them when I sit at my computer or on long trips.  I have some cheapo's that I use at the gym.  I installed a Fiio cable and some different tips.  The cable is just ok.  The sound quality is good and the cable itself is beefy but I get a lot of cord noise which bothers me at times.  I'm a runner and if I used these while running the cord noise alone would drive me to walking in front of a car to make the noise stop.

Did you end up getting the UE1 or UE2?  I'm in search for a cable to see if I even need an extra one.  I actually really don't mind the stock one, but haven't tried a different one, either.

I bought the UE1's because I busted the cable on my super Fi3's.  At the time I wasn't aware how delicate the cable connection was to the ear piece and I busted the connector.  I still have them and may turn them into a custom modeled set.  Anyways, that's when I bought the Fi10's.  Honestly I don't think I would have upgraded the cable or even noticed a difference in the cable upgrade side by side.  The UE1's were pretty tight going in so I'm not real interested in changing cables out at this point.  The Fi3's blew me away when I picked them up and the Fi10's continue to impress me.  I definitely wouldn't consider myself an audiophile but I am growing an increased taste in quality music.

Here's my newb post before I bought them.

What's a decent replacement with the mic? I don't want to spend more than $50, but if there's something really good... perhaps?

I'm in the exact same boat and I ordered sunricky's el cheapo remote cable for TF10 a few days ago; I'll post impressions when it comes in.

Just reporting in to say I'm having a ball this evening with TF10 and Sony NWZ-F806 Walkman. A pure example that the most expensive gear isn't always most satisfying. Each time I reach for another rig tonight, I say 'just one more song with the Triple-Fi' this has been going on for many hours.

Haha that's a very true statement.  IEMs like the TF10 and headphones like the HD650 are prime examples.

Just got my Sunricky mic cable, works great. The molded portion is very flexible but also holds well; I think I actually prefer it to memory wire. The mic works well, I have a friend who I use as a tester because when my headset mics are bad he always complains. He said it was actually pretty clear.

I'm always confused when people cite the HD650 as "inexpensive;" its like three times the street price of the TF10, plus it requires at least a $200+ amp and $200+ source...that's going on $800 lol

IEM's back when the TF10 came out ranged from $10 to around $1K.  It was a $350-400 IEM.  The street price now is around $150 for them, and that's only because of the Amazon Gold Box craze from a couple years ago.  If not for that, they would still probably go for $200-300.

The HD650 can be had for $300-350 used (there's one on sale for $335 in the FS forum right now).  On top of that, a great starting setup for the HD650 is the M&M combo; putting you right at the MSRP of the HD650.  If it suits you better, the DT880 can sit in this category, too.

They are still 'affordable' and 'justifiable', especially next to the post $1k headphones.

Plus, the sound from this so-called mid-fi class is very, very good

(And you are really missing out if you don't try some of the midfi tier products)

My TF10 are coming back from getting a new look. I know they are in the Inearz thread, but, not everyone reads that.

There's a wonderful pure silver cable I found recently on eBay for TF10, first I've ever seen it (he does Westone versions too). I am so tempted to treat my TF10 to one. We just missed out on a promo price for $99. USD, they jumped up to about $112. The cable is fully sheathed and comes with Viablue jack. (no I don't work for them, I just really like the cable)
