Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Appreciation Thread - Page 434

Hi, just wondering what would you guys think of spending on the reshell and custom cables which will set me up for another $250.

With this enhancement , better fit and better customized Cale
I was wondering if I should spend on another IEM, a gr07 or the BA200.

I know this is a TF10 thread as opinion would be biased but it justify the costs. Moreover mine is a amazon black Friday set.

Cheers

I'm not entirely sure that you'd get $250 worth of improvement. Unless you're just blown away by the TF.10 and couldn't think of buying anything else, or genuinely want to make the TF.10s sound better.

It's just my opinion, but i think spending more on the cable than on the entire phones is somewhat pointless, as i'd rather find phones that fit my tastes - that's just me.

I'd love to change the TF.10s just a little myself, but $250 + the $130 i have in the phones is $380 - very close to the cost of my JH5s.

I like my reshell and CH cable.

I can see the real value of re-shelling the TF10 to ensure fit, and maybe even to change the pin sockets. And especially at the Black Friday prices, which unfortunately I missed out on, one can go full custom for less than or equal to the cost of entry of house-brand CIEMs. Triple-driver, no less (though it's a dual low design that leaves out some midrange)! Very attractive arithmetic.

However, for as long as I've been contemplating opening up my BNIB TF10, I've been trying to read up on customs and I haven't yet heard of anyone liking their custom TF10 more than their house-brand CIEM. Maybe that opinion's been put out there, but I haven't come across it.

I can see myself putting some dough into remolding and maybe a modest cable. But that's only because I've made the initial investment into owning the TF10. I love the sound, I hate the fit, and so many tips later I think large-bore universals (esp. with such a large prominent shell) are not going to fit me well. So a re-shell is a nice option for me to have if I want to enjoy this IEM.

Considering my second (and now only) pair is NIB and could sell itself if needed, I find myself very carefully weighing a remold versus researching and purchasing a more mid-sweetened IEM, whether custom or soon-to-be-custom. Maybe just ponying up for an additional driver from UM or Rooth (or anyone else.... lmk if there are others), since, like I said, I'm already in for the cost of the earphones.

What are the choices? The materials cost for the cable was around £110 (!) ish. Frank of Toxic Cables will be selling 'proper' ones  - with overmoulded connectors - for £135 pre order.

I actually have to hang my head low now... as I've found a buyer for my TF10, and I don't think I'd end up going back after getting CIEMS.... I do/did like them very much though.  Very clean presentation.  They did change nicely with the Toxic Cables copper too.  I liked the cleaner sound, tightened bass and improved mids, but I can't say that the mids were actually a leap better than before.  Good for Jazz, but not so good for the other genres I listen to (R&B).

Dude - no need to hang your head. If I had the cash for CIEM's I would be all over them. Maybe in the future... This was a sort of experiment I suppose - to see if the cable helped out enough to make me want to listen to the TF10's again. It has certainly done that. After listening to thre GR07's for a while the TF's sounded so wrong, but now they sound great.

Just started listening to the TF10s. Although i have an array of cables i have started with the stock.

So far bass is wow. For a BA the quantity is just astonishing and although the bass is not as detailed as my BA200s or DBA-02 it is not bad, especially for how much quantity is added. Extension really feels great and these rumble nicely.

Mids are as many have said before me recessed but still okay nonetheless. They do not feel veiled and just pushed back. They are smooth most of the time but vocals do not sound the best at times and lack energy and oomph.

Treble lacks some zing but still sits well in front of the mids with the bass. There is sparkle but not at a fatiguing mark by a long way. Detail up top is very nice.

Soundstage is just on it in my opinion and nice and wide, average height and a complimentary depth.

These are very brief impressions and everything is good apart from a want to wrench the mids forward but am expecting a cable to do that for me.

Fit has also been good so far. In fact a lot easier a seal than my BA200s.

With a good seal I find the TF10's have a bit too much bass which imo veils the mids and treble somewhat. I was able to bring the mids a bit more forward by losing some of the bass.. I simply used memory foam ear plugs, I drilled a 2.5 or 3mm hole through one, cut it in half with scissors and squeezed them on to the nozzles. The foam allows them to 'breathe' a little which removes some bass and changes the sound signiture a fair bit. Definately worth experimenting with different tips or even DIY homemade jobbies before forking out large amounts for a cable that is only likely to change it a little.. if at all. The only downsides are that you have to wait about 10 seconds for the foam to expand to fit and being foam the earwax soon accumulates meaning you regularly have to keep making new pairs but thats hardly an issue due to me having a plentyfull supply from college. I just keep the ones I've been using in the workshop and aircraft hanger.

In all honesty I think the bass is not close to over powering or veiling anything. I've had a lil experiment with tips and started with just silicone and am. Ow using the comply tips which sound very nice. However for me, the best way neutralise the sound sig is just to stick in the silver ray cable which does wonders!

Nice little tip though, if I had them for longer I would try but I guess the sound is similar to the comply tips.

MUST.. NOT.. ORDER.. TF10vi CABLE FOR RESHELLED TF10 ='(

I had to use Fiio E11 to achieve the right bass response/amounts from my TF10. There simply wasn't enough to satisfy my cravings without it.

These didn't have enough bass for you?! They have plenty and the most I have ever encountered so far on a BA.

You must be some serious bass head!

Surely you could put yourself some awesome silver ray + mic! wink.gif

Maybe he needs that natural bass, air movement and rumble only dynamic drivers can provide. BAs can't do that as well as dynamic drivers from experience.

I'd be ridiculously loaded enough to buy that used Rolex Submariner I've always dreamed of having since I was 15 if I could figure out how to build a mic cable. I get like 5 requests a week. They get pretty ridiculous, someone once offered me a serious amount of cash yet I have no idea where to even begin to build one mang!

So alas, I eat Panda Express for dinner and cry myself to sleep =(

I missed out build but I guess that you got the jist.
My dad as a submariner but that's besides the point hehe.
Aah, I was not asking for one myself by the way and was not a request. I would like to know put a essay of detailed info on how to do one but I would have less clue than you by a long way. I guess that there is a gap in the market for a silver mic cable...:.
By the way, I have a TF10 on loan with a silver ray and its one awesome cable! Sure I'm the millionth to say so.

Also apoligise for how random this post is and the lack I sense that it makes.
