Repairing "y" block options

I've got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-EC7's

The left driver of the headphones was crackling and cutting out. I sourced the problem to the "Y" piece joining type block where the left and right wires join into one single wire.

What are my options for repair???
- it's a pre sealed "Y" rubber block - no real way of haking into it and putting it back in one piece
- is there some kind of mini chock block on the market that i can replace it with
- should i send back to audio-technica (i don't have reciept or warranty details)

Nobody have any advice then?

Why don't you just recable them? Technicaly you don't even need a full recable, just take the wires from just above the Y.

is there an faq on how to recable? or an already posted thread on the best way to go about it? I don't just want to twist some wires together and insulating tape it up!
i ask so that i don't keep cluttering up the board with noob questions

Very thoughtful of you...

One problem is alot of pics and links were lost in the head-fi crash late last year. Here's a couple of thread that might help. Do a search on recable and you should find more...
