Woot! My 30gb RWA iMod is now 32gb flash based!

I've been aching for a high capacity flash based player. They are slowly making their way to the public but I decided to take things into my own hands. Since I have a 5.5gen 30gb iMod, getting the highest capacity Compact Flash card - 32gb - made sense. I bought an adapter and my CF came today. The whole process took me maybe 10 minutes. I restored the iMod through iTunes and am now loading it with 14gb of music. So, no, I actually haven't played music yet but everything tells me I will have no problems. Of course now I've gone and jinxed myself.

I am psyched!

Yes, I do know about the DIY iMod but I already have an RWA iMod so I have no need to try the DIY version. Of course that isn't to say that I won't be giving it a try but this way was quicker and easier.

I expect so. The guy who made the adapter did some extensive battery tests and saw about a 40% jump when just playing music. Not so much with video since the screen is on all the time but that doesn't concern me since I never watch videos on mine.

Especially if you use lossless, the jump in battery life should be pretty noticeable. Also, sound should possibly be even "blacker" without the hard drive noise.

What adapter did you use?

Very nice, i personally prefer flash based players over hardrive based ones, because i don't have to worry about any problems if i use them while doing a physical activity. I don't mind sacrificing capacity at all, 32 gigs is satisfying for me.

This guy in the UK developed a very slick adapter. Works great! And, yes, it is fully functional. I'm listening to music as I type.

Thanks, I've been looking for one of these. Nice job.

Maybe rockbox is actually usable now...

Great job and congratulations, warrior05. Now I wonder if it's possible to double that CF in an 80gb unit.

Wow damn nice DAP you got there. Did the upgrade provide a noticeable increase in battery life or read/write speeds to the iMod?

Cheers!

Just wait for a 64gb or 128gb flash card.

I certainly have thought of the possibility of throwing in a higher capacity CF once they are available. Maybe then I'll start storing everything lossless.

As for the question regarding battery runtimes and read/write: I haven't used it enough to comment about the battery. As for read/write - it does seem to take a bit longer loading the CF but response seems to be quicker.
