Full size headphone reference? 7506 too small!!

Ok, here's my deal. I currently own 2 pairs of cans.

The Senn 280 Pros, and the Sony 7506.

The big deal about my situation, is that the Senns are much larger and more confortable even though I'd say the Sony's have better bass response.

However, I cannot wear the Sony's cup size for long before pain sets in my ears. I am going to sell them back on ebay ASAP before they lose any value. The Senns are getting beaten up and I may pick up another pair instead, but I was wondering if anyone has a tad better suggestion but the cup size has to fit like the 280's. I need big cups, close/semi closed that fit more OVER the ears so my poor ears do not get sore. I had the Audio Technica m40fs and they also made my ears sore, but not as fast as the Sony's do. Any suggestions. I can get the 280's really cheap right now....around $67 with shipping, and I'd be willing to go up as much as $120 or so for something that is a notch above if it exists because I do some home recording. The Senn 280's might just be "MY" headphone of overall choice because they are good, but they construction started cracking after a few years although they still work perfectly.
The plastic around the control arms cracked.
Someone was mentioning the HD-555....are they as comfortable as the 280 pros? How do they compare?
Or the Beyerdynamic DT770 - how about those. I'd get some used if I had to if they are really THAT good.
Thanks.....

The HD-595's are the most comfortablest comfiest softest melts-in-your-head headphones I've ever put on my head. But I also think my Grado's are pretty comfy too.

I've found the HD-595s to be comfortable as well, although they are a bit above your price range. Probably would fit in your price range if you picked up a used pair though. As far as closed headphones go, I like the fit of the ATH-A900s/700s/500s. You might try something in that series as well.

Anyway, I was basically recommending the HD-555's for alphaproject as the HD-555's are the virtually the same as the 595's form-wise.

Understandable. I've never had the HD 555s, so I couldn't really comment on their comfort level as compared to the HD 595s, even though what I've heard is that they are the same.

Thanks, I see the HD-555's are on Ebay. However, are they much better than the 280 Pro's because I can get another pair of those for a slightly lower price. They are obviously semi open so they aren't going to drown out noise like the 280's do.

"I like the fit of the ATH-A900s/700s/500s" - I had a previous pair of AT cans, the M40fs and they were not as comfy to my ears as the 280's were, so are they bigger/softer than the M40fs cans? They also actually went bad, a loose cord or something. I sent them to a friend who repaired them for $40.

I actually had a $40 pair of Koss Can's, can't recall the model that I could wear for hours but I broke them. Those were so comfy. But not on the level of sound quality of the M40fs or Senn 280 pros....but did rival them in comfort.

I'm also looking at Ultrasone HFI-550 or the DJ1 set of cans. The ATH 700's look real nice though.

I do like extreme Isolation however, comfort is number 1 and the 280's are perfect....so if I can get something even more comfy than the 280's that are a tad better in sound, I'll take your advice. Luckily my 280's still work cause I don't want to buy another pair until I am sure what there is out there that will fit comfortably.

If the pads are your problem with 7506 they can be changed to bayerdynamic DT-250 velour cushions. Adds comfort and doesn't sweat on summer. Haven't done it myself so I don't know if it affect SQ. Search engine is useless because trying to search beyer +v6 +pad +mod gives zillion results!

I also found that bending the headband a little helps. I can wear them hours.

No....they just sit wrong.... the 280's sit completely different plus I've measured the 7506 and they are smaller than the 280's probably by 2-3cm.

The sony's just don't cut it by a few cm....too bad.

I didn't want to spend the $20 on the diff cushions because it wasn't the cushion, it was the size so I wasn't going to take a chance.

Sorry man, I don't know. I've never had the M40fs, so I can't make a comparison for you. Perhaps someone else that has tried both can comment.

Well, tomorrow I might go somewhere where they have some headphones....maybe they will have the AT-700s.

There are plenty of decent cans for the same price but comfort is number 1 for me cause it could sound like heaven but if I can't wear it, it's outta there.

The guy on ebay who sold me the 7506's is saying the 7509HD's are bigger and will blow away anything in the price range, but I have not really seen anybody talking about the 7509's. Plus...since the 7506's hurt so bad, I'm really not trusting Sony right now for my ears.
