Hah, this is a good post. In the 2005 Tampa meet planning thread we got into a discussion of who had the most meets under their belt at that point. Wayne's post, concerning my meet experience:

Maybe you'll earn your wings with this meet. I guess since Guru won't be there, Gene and I will need to vote. Hummmm, should we count it against you that you missed a meet that occurred before you joined Head-Fi? Where did the rule book go? I know it's here somewhere...
To which I replied:

I need to be a Made man Don Mcmanus. I'll go knock off a liquor truck if it'll get me there .
Irony in the fact that six months later I started driving a liquor truck.

The December 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale, when Tyll had the booze, Stevieo stole Ray's deodorant, we started the party in my room at 1AM the night before the meet (after Jaco's b-day party show), and Ray fell asleep face down on the floor of Oz's store, raised the bar for the large...er...extended Florida parties....I mean meets.

Then, Gene's weekend slumber party in Sarasota made the two-day meet a new Florida requirement, and turned bar-hopping into essential act for the proper evaluation of cables and portable amps:

I think the National in San Jose, the meet of the above post's link, was only weeks away, and Team Florida was prepped and ready.

Then it was back to Florida for your infamous Tampa gathering for the next great party:

Though I'm not forgetting all the fun mini-meets in between or the last East Coast Meet that wasn't too shabby,

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f45/it...w-down-265555/

the absolute best Florida meet was in California at Voltron's MOA.

So, it's time to bring it back home and all together for the Jam. I'm excited now. I actually forgot for a minute how much damn fun we really have. Gotta love headphones!

Here's the impressions from the first Tampa meet in 2005. Note that we were all in Ybor on Saturday night so no actual impressions were posted for quite a while. This move was completely foreign to the general head-fi population and there was much grumbling.

Was this the first Florida meet where a live show was attended by most? I believe so, although I picked up Justin from the airport and didn't make it. In retrospect, shoulda had him get a cab.

Also, a very important fact, that baby Melinda as seen in another thread on this very forum may have very well have been a direct result of the events in Ybor. I think we need to hand out an award for THAT, come Saturday night of CanJam.

That meet was before my time when I was happy with my Etys, 580s, SR60s and microamp, blissfully unaware that head-fi ever existed.

That thread is funny. Everyone was so nice. "Thank you, Matt." "Thanks, Matt." "Thanks for making us feel welcome, Matt." Jebus, did they know you yet?

And why the hell are we both awake at 5:30AM right now? That's what I really want to know.

If you're like me sometimes you just WAKE UP and there's no scense in laying there. This morning it was 4:50.

My headphones are coming in today! Yay. No, that wasn't why I was awake, but it's why I'm awake now. Post office didn't drop this one yesterday, apparently afraid it'll get stolen. They left my amp on Wednesday though.

OK most evil joke ever Audiocubes! When I talked to Vicki she suggested I get the case for these headphones, which I promptly did. Well, guess which order shipped? I hadn't checked the order number closely enough, and indeed it was the later order with just the case. WHERE OH WHERE ARE MY HEADPHONES!?!?

Ouch. That stinks. I'm thinking seriously about getting mine recabled.

now that post or well the links to the other threads scared me a tad. im not even half as ballsy as some of you guys hitching rides in strangers pick up trucks in an unknown town and calling up boom and asking her if she wants a felafel sammich (?). but it sure as hell sounds like you gentlemen had fun.

We are a little crazy, but we had Gene with us and some of us are convinced he's a trained assasin, ex black ops guy, so we were safe. Besides, did you see the pic of jp in the back of the pickup? Do you think anyone was messing with him?

You want falafal, get on a plane to La Guardia, take a taxi into manhatten down to Washington Square Park. Just a short block away from the park is one of the better falafal joints I've ever been to.

is gene = agile_one? if so ive had the same thoughts about him, even though he bears a striking resemblance to my non euclidean geometry professor my freshman year, dr. wilson. wizened old intellectual look on the face but a mysterious steely resolve with everything he did. and for some reason he pranced around in the snow in the thick of winter as if he were some snow leopard while the lot of us (students) were panting and trying to catch a breathe.

as far as the picture goes, after a while i was just looking through them real fast, didnt read the captions. are you talking about the one with a gentleman in the back of the pick up with a cell phone in hand? i did that see that. was that jp?

Don't blow Gene's cover, crappyjones! Mr. Mike's on the cell phone (as usual) and jp's the genie boy.
