from what I've heard, they really are that popular. Nintendo isn't holding them back intentionally, they just keep selling more than expected. People still want 300+ on craigslist/ebay and last sunday while buying something I noticed people were still standing in line for the wii lol.

i think it's a small combination of both. nintendo realizes there's still a very high demand, so they're simply not flooding the market with consoles. it's not like they couldn't make more if they wanted to. i highly doubt they're producing at maximum efficiency.
