Optimal shipping method from Canada to US

My first time shipping stuff from my place and I'm just wondering which method is the optimal route to go...

I was thinking just going to the Canada Post office and ask for a method that include tracking, but then I was wondering if going with some other company like Purolator would be better...

So I would like some idea thrown at me, thanks guys.

Canada Post Expedited Parcel or Xpresspost. Expedited takes about 10-14 business days with tracking, and Xpresspost is 5 days guaranteed with tracking. For more expensive stuff I prefer Xpresspost.

EDIT: These two are the cheapest, most reliable way to get stuff across the border without incurring significant extra charges.

I agree on Xpresspost. I received a pair of headphones here in the US in 5 days, with no customs fees to boot!

XpressPost is worth the extra few $ IMHO. Canada Post is difficult to beat! Well, except for regular 1st class mail where they're a bit inconsistent (I've had things go from Vancouver->Toronto in 2 days, and in other cases take longer than 2 weeks.. Weird)

Their small parcel service isn't bad too, especially for smaller objects. No tracking, but insured up to $100 and gets there in decent time. Pair of headphones took a week and a half from one side of the continent to the other. XpressPost for the more expensive stuff is great too. Tracking with Canada Post in general is spotty at best though.

If you are in Ottawa, why not just drive across the border and ship in the US postal office?
Especially if the item you are shipping has commerical value..

Ottawa is not really that close to the border. I doubt xzjia wants to drive for over an hour just to mail a package.

Only use Canada/US post. I hate the couriers.
