I wanna try 'em with my PL50 and I don't want a fake.
contact the seller and ask them about it? if what they sent you looks different from the stock photo that they use , you could start an ebay dispute and get your money back...

Just got mine. Take a guess on which is the real one?

The answer is B. A is an almost identical clone of hybrid, but not for open sale. It is the stock eartips for Music Valley SP1. C is the clone from ebay (seller: lostearbuds). Beside the color is different, it also has a slightly stiffer and a few mm longer flange, but the shape on the tip is very close to the original. Since it is not quite as soft as the real hybrid, it is not quite as comfortable as well (but neither is it uncomfortable). For SQ, I find to be almost the same as hybrid: it tends to absorb a bit of treble and give better bass response, add a small amount of warmness to the sound.

For those who own the PL50; Yes, C will fits it just fine. In fact, I decide they will be my PL50 eartips from now on.

Yes, they all do. I am using big bi-flange on my RE0. It has better soundstage in exchange of some bass and mid focus. Since I amp RE0 all the time, it is not actually an problem at all.

The use of two different thickness of silicone. Thicker silicone core for extra grip on the nozzle, thiner silicone flange for comfort.

but all the silicone tips i have now, the stock SHE9850 ones and the Shure clear and grey tips, have a thick core and a thin flange... as far as i can tell, the only thing different about these sony 'hybrid' tips is that the core is coloured? and that there is a groove around the inside...

Yes, they (SHE9850 and Shure grey flex, not clear flex as it is made out of a different, more rubbery, PVC-like material) do share many common features, but they are also intended for smaller nozzle. On the other hand, Sony hybrid is meant for bigger nozzle (although it is tight enough for smaller nozzle too).

Big nozzle IEM usually doesn't have as good of an aftermarket eartips selection as small nozzle IEM, hence why many people (who own big nozzle IEM) find hybrid to be great compared to the usual stuff.

and speaking of silicone tips in general... why do they have to have that seam around the outside? if you turn the inside out (so that the core is sticking away from the tip) , its all smooth on the inside surface...why couldnt they mold it inside out and then fold it into shape... so that the seam is on the inside surface and not scratching against the ear...

Because of how the melted silicone is injected into the two half of the mold. The seam is where the two mold joined to form the cavity. The thing about plastic is, you need to form them in the shape you want to retain so they will have the memory when they are cooled down. If you do it the way you want, the memory / tension in the plastic will always want to flip it back.

i have receved the fake sony tips... for the price, you dont just get 3 pairs of tips like they show in the pictures, you get 3 pairs for each of the 3 sizes... good value in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality however, you could slightly feel the variation between the tips... the seam i was talking about is very prominent on some of them, not so much on others... they all feel rougher the other silicone tips i have

I'm using the generic Shure olives from eBay on my PL50 and they are so comfortable that I routinely wake up with them in, in the middle of the night.

That's a really good news. What about the isolation and the sound quality? Can you listen any difference?

Iso is great and I really like the delicate nature of the pl50's sound in general. It's a great combo for me as the firm foams are a great fit for my ears. They are definitely worth a try @ $2 for 2 pair inc shipping.

Ok, well actually I meant the difference with the original sponge eartips. What size do you use with the original sponge eartips? I use the biggest that I suppose is the medium for the shure olives.

My PL50s were part of that batch that had the foam tips from Hades. People actually destroyed their PL50s by trying to remove the tips. The tips originally on mine were too small and I never got a seal. I had to cut them off with an X-Acto knife.

The PL50s sounded great with the L Sony hybrids, too, but the olives are more comfortable and insert deeper also. That may be somewhat oxymoronic, but it's true in my case. I'm sure that the deeper insertion has major impact on the presentation. Whatever... it works. I love my PL50s at night.
