Not sure what forum this should be in but God this guy is full of himself. And he just seems like a total dick in general.

Alexander Pope from I think "An Essay on Criticism" comes to mind.

"A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again."

Freaking Henry Rollins. Feel free to defend him if you like. I try to keep an open mind. I love "Dogtown and Z-boys" but I get really tempted to pay one of my cinema friends to edit him out of it for me.

Oh yeah, I don't usually hate the English. They've got good techno and I'm so jealous that the British versions of magazines are always superior to the US version but I want to know; where do they get off using "gh" to sound like anything?!?

Like they spell draft as draught and hiccup as hiccough. Us Americans have enough problems spelling. Oh look, there's that damn "gh" creeping up again. Damn English rat person honky pieces of...

Ok, I'm calm now. Just in a ranting mood again.

i remember rollins bitching about how u2 sold more albums than rollins band. the assumption being of course that rollins band is better or more original than u2. go pump yourself, muscle-head. oh, and his acting is laughable.

I must admit that I find Rollins Band music painful to listen to, due predominantly to his tiresome, overbearing lyrics and delivery.

On the other hand, the first spoken word tour he did of Australia (maybe around 1991-92) was very powerful and poignant. It was just after his good friend/housemate had been murdered in front of him by burgulars. I can't comment on his more recent spoken word output.

Forget about Rollins Band...

His spoken word performances are very well done IMO. Go rent one of his DVD's.

Any DVD you can reccomend (sic?)? I just know him from music, interviews and acting. I'll have to watch it next door or something though. But hopefully I won't want to throw a chair at the TV.

Well, considering that most rocker's lyrics are total crap & nonsense, it's refreshing to hear a band who's lyrics can make you think.
I like Henry

I recall Rollins saying that The Clash is the band U2 tried to be but failed.

I saw Rollins waaaay back in '92 at the Gothic Theatre in Denver and I really liked the show. (That might be partially because a little band that just got together called Tool opened the show) I liked End of Silence, but his subsequent albums didn't really interest me much. I have not heard his spoken word performances.

no offence, but original isn't the first word that pops in my head when U2 is mentioned. either way, Rollins is a joke these days, with the movie roles and whatnot. I'll stick to listening to Black Flag.

Not nowadays, that's for sure. But back when they started, the first albums were pretty original. It's pretty hard being mainstream and having a lot of people copying you to stay original, even though I do find that they seem to be out of inspiration these days.

I didn't like the bass player he got after Andrew Weiss..

it's funny, both Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain played in Greg Ginn's group GONE before they joined Henry in the ROLLINS BAND. Sometimes I wonder how Greg Ginn feels about Rollin's celebrity. That had to be rough..

The music of the Rollins band sounds synonymous with that of Andrew WK to me. Just loud, noisy garbage with unmethodical rhythms, as if that is the ultimate goal of the band - to be unmelodious.
