QUESTION FOR HEADFI'ER'S - WHAT BINAURAL RECORDS DO YOU WANT TO HEAR?

Well, I have always been a fan of binaural recordings. Just for fun, I ordered a dummy head capable of recording in binaural and the recordings come out GREAT.

I was thinking of recording some freebie stuff for headfi'er's which I could post on my blog bi-weekly or something like that. So with that in mind -

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR?

I'm kind of a fan of layered ambient sounds... like you're really in a crowd or building.

May I ask what did you order and how much? I would love to experiment with one.

Jet aircraft taking off at airports, volcanic eruptions, spring birds feeding at a feeding stations, Indy cars passing by the grand stand, lawn mower, and cheering at a high school football game.

Cool. I am also a big fan of ambient sounds too, especially crowded restaurants or parks.

Of course you may. However, I will not post it at the moment. I plan to write a "how to" in my blog so that others who are interested can learn how to do these recordings. Total spent thus far: Under $100.00.

I can do the aircraft thing as there is an airport nearby. I don't have any active volcanoes nearby but I'll see if I can arrage that somehow.

Indy cars I may be able to do. Lawn mower and High School football game is a def. CAN do!

That's cool. Don't want to steal your thunder. Was curious if you bought one of the real expensive heads or were taking a more DIY approach. Looking forward to your blog!

I have done a lot of research on the expensive heads (as well as recording with them). I was also even given the chance to open one up and have fun with it.

My approach however, is completely DIY. The cheapest you can buy a dummy head for is about $800.00 used not including the recorder. I want to see just how cheap I can go and still get professional results.

Probably. The professional ones are horrendously expensive. Last time I was looking I found a used one for $9000. I gave up once I found out how much they went for.

Conversation with ppl walking all around the room might be interesting. Also how will a binaural recording fare when you put the head at the center of a Home theater speaker setup and play DVDA's or SACD's or even something from a movie? Might be interesting

You can get a binaural dummy head from Soundman OKM for a few hundred quid. They also do the mics without the head. Their head is heavily based on the hairy harry that (i think) AKG made.

I thought they were no longer making them. Hairy Harry is supposed to be one of the better heads just behind the Aachen-Head and the Neumann KU-100 Dummy Head.

My goal is to spend less than $150.00. I want this to be affordable.

Your best Donald Duck impression.

You going to be hit with a lot of requests.

I suggest you just get creative, while doing some requests that seem to be popular: more than one person asking for it.
