According to this test, the best is :

1. Audio Note Silver
2. V-Cap Teflon Film Tin Foil
3. REL/Exotica TFT
4. Audio Consulting Oil Capacitor
5. Jensen paper-in-oil copper or Mundorf Supreme Silver/Oil.

I'd like to use one of them for my diyMod iPod.

I doubt you can hear much difference between Vcap and AudioNote silver, if you are using them for a iMod LOD. The ipod is not exactly the most resolving source in the world you know....

I'll see soon enough for myself about silver/gold in signal coupling..

As for Sonicap Gen I, you say "that loss of resolution is very small and manifests itself in a sort of flattened body and overly smooth midrange."

I am particularly sensitive to this flatter, overly smooth midrange thing; any plans for trying some Sonicap Gen II or Platinum?

I have tried sonic-1/2 and Auri in my Stax 001's output stage, the resolution difference between Sonic and Auri is quite noticable, when playing certain jazz tracks.
The sonic-2 is also thicker sounding than the Auri, than the Sonic-1. I personally think the sonic-1 has a recessed mid-range, for it is the best of the three for jazz (despite having less details than the Auri).
